Why doesn’t he just get Nick Partridge to donate? He’s on about £80k at the last count.

and how much should the person running the largest sexual health charity in the UK with something over 10 million a year turnover be paid? I think the THT is doing good work and Sir Nick earns his salary.

Charities in my opinion should not be necessary.
All power to this chap’s elbow for doing this, but he shouldn’t have to.

It angers me when people try to raise money for kidney machines etc, why is this not being paid for by the NHS? The trouble with socialists is they are all for giving out everyone else’s money, but never any of their own.

Advocacy, campaigning, support and education are not part of the NHS’s remit, although I believe the NHS does fund the THT’s prevention work and the Chaps partnership.

Who was it that came up with the phrase “Prevention is better than a cure?”
However you want to look at it, it’s the government’s responsibility, even if it isn’t the NHS.

It isn’t up to some poor sod cycling all over London.

Because the tory government don’t put money into the NHS. The great thing about socialists is they put institutions like the NHS in place.

And the rest Spanner. I heard at least six figures, and a gilt-edged pension pot to boot. Makes you sick to the back teeth when you then hear them shaking their collection tins and moaning about Tory cuts. Well there’s one cut that can be made just there, good riddance I say.

  5. He’s cycling from Cockfosters to West Ruislip apparently. Now if Dan Brown has thought us anything (and he hasn’t), you take the first part of Cockfosters and the last part of West Ruislip and your left with ‘cock’ and ‘lip’. So really the whole stunt is a paean to oral sex……

Its so disappointing to see some of these comments. Here’s a young man doing something really positive. where’s the support and encouragement??
People on here seem so wrapped up in themselves, its as if they’re walking around with huge chips on their shoulders.

This young chap would be doing something positive if he actually properly researched who he was raising money for. THT’s coffers are full to the brim each year with £20 million of government funding, fundraising and donations, yet has relatively little to show in terms of offering value for that money. It gives HIVers a raw deal by stream-lining services and withdrawing vital programs like free legal advice and pays scant lip service to HIV prevention. It seems more wrapped up in chasing the big bucks that come with providing services to HIV-infected asylum seekers than domestic gay men for whom it was originally set up to help. It has nothing fresh or innovative to offer HIVers and is long past its sell-by date, as is that old relic Partridge. Perhaps Adam should consider these facts before jumping on his bike again and helping a truly deserving charity that needs a genuine break.

          Hi Adam,
I’m really sorry we all appear to be pissing on your fireworks here, and I am sure your intentions are well meaning, but like so many political issues, there are two sides to every coin, and many HIV+ people feel betrayed by THT, in much the same way as Stonewall has done for LGBT people in general.

I think they both started with the best intentions but have become totally obsessed with money and publicity, and have actually forgotten the real reason they are there.

As a suggestion, if you want a REAL cause, check out London Friend. They help a huge amount of gay people out and get very little thanks, and they are desperately seeking money to buy their property before their lease runs out.

London Friend is definitely a very worthwhile charity. Perhapes Pinknews could do an article about this Charity and how they hope to raise the funds to purchase their building in th Caladonian Road.

They already have, but like so many gay men, they are large in gob, but short in pocket:
