Man jailed for 21-year-old sex attack on lesbian couple
A man has been jailed for 12 months for a 1990 sex attack on a lesbian couple in south London.
Anthony Burrows, 55, was caught when police used new DNA techniques on a ‘cold case’ review, the Daily Mail reports.
The Old Bailey heard that he had followed the couple to their home in Camberwell on March 16th, 1990.
At 3.45am, he entered the property wearing a surgical mask and a red beret. He woke the couple and began performing a sex act on himself.
Burrows ordered the women, aged 27 and 28, to have sex in front of him. When they refused, he forced them to carry out a sex act on him.
A police investigation began immediately after the attack.
When arrested in February, Burrows said he did not remember the attack.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault on the basis of the forensic evidence against him and will serve two 12-month sentences concurrently.
Burrows, who was described as a “regular churchgoer” in court, already has convictions for sex attacks on women.
He was convicted of indecent exposure in 1983 for masturbating outside a woman’s window and was found guilty of indecent exposure the next year for groping a 13-year-old girl in the street.
In defence, solicitor Tim Walker said his client was sorry and felt “genuine shame” over his actions.
