  1. I can think of quite a few reasons to give him a call!!

    1. Seems like a really grounded bloke. Sadly can’t imagine a gay or straight footballer in the UK being this sensible. All our footballers are interested in is money and bling.

      1. Please – what a sweeping generalisation! slamming them all ain’t going to make the situation any better.
I could imagine Beckham having a pretty sensible attiutude. Both Graham LeSaux and David James have written sensibly about gays in football.

I hope there are more sports people who feel able to be confident in coming out soon

What a great guy, boosted by his self-deprecating attitude. At least the thought police won’t be able to interfere or endanger his career by inciting him to squeal and scream blue murder if one of his team mates jokingly refuses to bend down to pick up the soap at shower time.

    1. Yeah very true

I suspect if he had been in England they would be looking for him making mistakes though (dont know what the Swedish tabloids are like!) – hopefully he is as calm and collected as some of our newer gay celebs are

Which ‘newer gay celebs’ do you mean?

        1. @Paddyswurds

There are a few like Will Young and also bisexual Duncan James whose handling of media interest has been exceptionally good – assertive, confident and keen to demonstrate that sexuality is an aspect of them as a person but not the entire story

  4. haha, with that picture it almost reads “Any gay footballers out there? Give me a call! *wink* “

  5. I wouldn’t call his league high level no offence lol. But he seems a really nice guy.

Wish we had players brave enough to come out. But despite what polls say homophobia is still rampant.

I think, even though he’s playing in a lower division, the message is clear: being fearless is the best way to come out of the closet; the issue of coping with ‘dressing room banter’ and being in the showers is a non-issue – it can be done, and it won’t be as big an issue as people will make out.

Everyone has iPhones nowadays: It’s highly probable that those fans who want to repeat the kind of abuse Sol Campbell got, will be on youtube, permanently banned and in court.

Well I’m neither a footballer or in the closet, but I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity of scoring a goal with him.

I find it very very strange that he´s being called “the first” football player to come out. In Sweden we already had a professional football player come out a few years ago. Just saying.
