  1. Well of course they are.

    That’s that the WBC do.

I wish the media would stop giving these weirdos the oxygen of publicity they so desperately crave.

    1. Steve Sampson 24 Mar 2011, 11:27am

I agree. Let them wither away with neglect. Hate does not need a publicist.

  2. Let them do it. Film stars are bigger heroes than soldiers, they won’t get past her entourage.

    1. “…Film stars are bigger heroes than soldiers…”

    2. “Film stars are bigger heroes than soldiers” I hope that statement is ironic!

      1. Why would soldiers be heroes btw? Their primal duty is to kill when ordered. Heroes my a…School dropouts more likely. I feel sorry for them thou. Ignorance is the biggest enemy of all.

      2. Paddyswurds 24 Mar 2011, 10:29pm

@ Angela K…why would you think that post was ironic. Solders are no heros and for the most part are thickos who fail to get a proper job so have to resort to being automatons, trained and ordered to kill their fellow man without emotion. As the pics from Adu Graib in Iraq showed quite a few of them should be locked up in a secure institution for what they done to the people of Iraq.
The same is now going on in Afganistan as pics released this week showed.
This is the sort of behaviour that the people of northern Ireland had to put up with for 30 years. Heros they are not..Paid murders more like.

        1. Paddyswurds 24 Mar 2011, 10:30pm

          1. Paddyswurds 24 Mar 2011, 10:38pm

…that is not to say however that this bunch of filth have a right to picket anyones funeral.
It is a disgrace that the police don’t keep them at least a mile away from any funeral as a mark of respect. Would the police allow them picket a policemans funeral killed in the line of duty. Why they have been allowed to continue this vile picketing without any retribution says a lot about the USA. Louudly i would say ..Cowards is a word that comes quickly to mind……

          2. @Paddyswurds

Not sure that the police have revealed their intentions on the policing of the funeral – they may surprise you …

          3. english words 25 Mar 2011, 9:03pm

@ Stu Well in the event Liz out manouvered them. As she was buried yesterday in a quiet private cermony in LA. She was even fashionably late for her own funeral as she had requested. Good on ya Liz and may you Rest in Peace.

  3. Robert (Kettering) 24 Mar 2011, 12:24am

Why don’t crowds of people go along to their pickets and simply point and laugh at the weirdos in the street? If enough people publicly ridicule this bunch of sickos then eventually they might give up.

    1. Probably because the only thing worse than hearing people shout slurs and hate-filled words while attending your child’s/parent’s/partner’s/friend’s funeral is hearing people laughing on top of it? It doesn’t matter whether the laughter is directed at the deceased or those spitting bile, it’s still incredibly disrespectful.

What many people do is instead organise human walls to block the protesters from the sight of the mourners.

    2. Chris Wilson (Canada) 24 Mar 2011, 7:01pm

No point in doing that. They will just spew back bible bile about “blessed are they that are persecuted in My name” or some such and take it as a kind of martyrdom and vindication of righteousness, etc.

      1. Chris Wilson (Canada) 24 Mar 2011, 7:05pm

(I meant laughing/ridiculing probably pointless. The human shield is a good tactic and has been employed at other funerals)

  4. What are Fred Phelps and the WBC afraid of? Rainbows? Unicorns? A flaming pink queer apocalypse? I attempted to address this with a portrait of the good reverend on my artist’s blog at Drop in and let me know what you think!

  5. lock them up or something this is crossing the line….. wow do they have any respect???

    1. Paddyswurds 24 Mar 2011, 10:41pm

@ art1e eehhh no!! these pigs do’t even have espect for their own children

  6. To picket the funeral of a Hollywood icon beloved around the world is quite a risky move. Many people who think WBC is wacko may finally realize that WBC are nothing but hate mongers when they are seen picketing Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral.

I hope Liz will be watching from the great beyond and laughing as WBC finally implodes. Let the press endlessly cover the event and criticize WBC for the hateful, disrespectful cowards they truly are.

  7. To the people in charge of Ms Taylors Funeral. Deny these loons their spotlight of fame. Move the funeral to Britain, Canada, Australia or other sensible country that has banned these people entry.
If that does not happen the solace for me will be that Ms Taylor will be remembered long after these loons and their legacy of hate are the dust underfoot in history.

  8. The self-hatred and loathing of the WBC is amazing. They just don’t hate themselves , but everybody else. Sad example of the human race.

  9. Lady Tanya 24 Mar 2011, 2:01am

i wish these rats would just go away. Why if they do not like the life in the usa why not go somewhere where there are utters like them, some where like Iran or Uganda where they can piss them of and see how long they last out there,
wish I knew why when people move to a place and try to mess with the country’s
way of life, people who are full of life and know that life is about change.
    Love and peace to all

  10. Please let their church burn down.

    1. With them in it

      1. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 8:06am

        Was just thinking that!

        1. Don’t sink to their level, guys

          1. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 1:00pm

There’s a diference between thinking it and doing it George.

        2. There is no difference between thought and action. Action starts with a thought. You can’t do anything unless you think it up first. But I had same thoughts so guilty as charged. Our helplessness really pisses me off.

          1. Jock S. Trap 25 Mar 2011, 12:25pm

Action may well start as a thought but not all thought turns into action.

  11. When Phelps dies we should all protest at his funeral to show his cult how sickening their behavior is

    1. Dominic Davies 24 Mar 2011, 8:16am

Yeah, street parties filmed around the world too! Champagne, orgies the lot! “Ding Dong the miserable old sod is dead.” His hatemongering and child abuse is a terrible affront to decent, loving chrisitans.

      1. I think we should have a chorusline of munchkins sing that on a specially yellow-brick paved road. Perhaps bring back Michael Moore’s sodomobile for an encore!

        1. Dr Robin Guthrie 24 Mar 2011, 11:56am

With “Ding Dong the Witch is dead” as the main chorus………..

    2. Who need to wait untill he is dead, why not hold a massive protest outside his Church whilst he is still very much alive!!!

  12. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 8:02am

The lowest form of ‘human beings’ clearly hoping someone will show them violence so they can make money.

    Disgusted but not surprised.

It’s just a shame America has a two tier system of those who can legimately have cause to protest like for Gay rights and are stopped and these low-life money grabbing Bastards.

  13. I hope a slurry truck happens to be driving by them when they’re protesting and sprays the whole nutty lot of them with sh!t. They’re some of the most vile human beings on the planet, and the US authorities should be ashamed that they haven’t taken all their children into care.

    1. LOL! Love it….

      1. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 1:02pm

Oh Iris now that I idea is classic!! Love it!!

    2. Like gets like. So to speak

  14. Helen Wilson 24 Mar 2011, 8:06am

Its a badge of honour to have the WBC to protest the funeral.

Looks like you made it for all the right reasons Liz x

    1. Helen Wilson 24 Mar 2011, 8:22am

Bugger I thought this one did not post!

  15. Helen Wilson 24 Mar 2011, 8:12am

I’m sure Liz would see it as a badge of honour to have them (WBC) protest her funeral.

Its a mark she made it as a human to see the scummy WBC outside.

    (People hate WBC)

  16. Where’s LU today, I imagine he/she and the pathetic WBC share the same mindset.

    1. Lu finally got flushed which was just as well because he was full of crap.

      1. Will you 2 behave or well have skinner back talking about unsheathed members

        1. I was thinking, we have not heard from Mr Skinner recently?

  17. Christine Beckett 24 Mar 2011, 8:21am

Have to say I wonder if these loonies are in fact the best organisation that exists in the USA, when it comes to building acceptance and understanding of the LGBT community there.

Rational human beings could not fail to reel backwards in disgust at their antics, and empathise instead with the targets of their insane vitriol.

So it might well be counter-productive to have a media ban.

    1. Does fox news back these idiots?

    2. In a perverse way you might be right Christine, as fundie homophobe caricatures you couldn’t invent something as vile as Westboro baptist church if you tried. They are universally reviled by everyone of every political persuasion left or right.
That said, would you want them anywhere near your own funeral?

  18. “I hope Liz will be watching from the great beyond and laughing”

Nice sentiment but just as inaccurate as saying she will go to hell. She is dead. She has ceased to be. People can’t have heaven without hell. You either believe both or neither. If you believe in heaven or the great beyond you are putting yourself not that far removed from the church and beliefs in this article.

Her memory will live on in her work. She won’t in any form. She has not passed on or gone to the beyond or gone to sleep or gone to heaven.

    1. Not true. Heaven and Hell have evolved to represent more broad concepts than those strictly spoken of by the Christian faith. Faith itself has evolved past the concept of adhering to one religion – many people don’t tie themselves to what a single religion teaches but instead takes lessons from many and settles into their own set of beliefs, which feels right to them personally.

You’re allowed to believe what you want, including that Liz Taylor is now no more than a body and a collection of memories, but just as the LGBTQ community are asking for nothing more than tolerance and equality, so should you respect the beliefs of others.

And before you ask, no I don’t include hatemongers like WBC or anyone else who wishes harm on others purely for existing.

    2. It was literary imagery, not religious belief. Your mindset is accurately displayed by the fact that you chose not to focus on the central point of my comment.

You will forever be known to me as “witless Twit”.

      1. “Heaven and Hell have evolved to represent more broad concepts than those strictly spoken of by the Christian faith. Faith itself has evolved past the concept of adhering to one religion – many people don’t tie themselves to what a single religion teaches but instead takes lessons from many and settles into their own set of beliefs, which feels right to them personally.”
Apologists for religion always come up with stuff like this. It doesn’t actually mean anything. I appreciated the sentiment and then people resort to name calling.

The trouble is the religious expect respect purely because it is religion and for no other reason.

I can respect a persons right to have a rediculous belief but I don’t have to respect that belief. There is a difference.

I can respect the right of the wbc to protest but you are saying i should respect their beliefs. Or are you just saying we should only respect the beliefs of sensible religious people. So who decides what is sensible.

  19. The WBC and the Phelps clan should be turned into a one-season comedy tv sitcom like “The Brady Bunch”…they are hilarious, so dysfunctional and so beyond mental, it would be fascinating.

    1. I thought “The Flintstones” already covered that whole living in the stoneage with a bunch of dinosaurs vibe.
Mind you, even they managed to have a gay old time at the end of every episode!

      1. Yeah, the Flintstones is a historically accurate portrayal for creationists. :)

          1. And of course Liz played Wilma’s mother in the film, so it all fits so neatly.

      2. Phelptstones. Meet the Phelpstones.
They’re the modern stone age family.
        From the town of Westboro,
They’re a page right out of history.

They’ll picket at the funeral down the street.
As Fred abuses his right to freedom speech.

But if you’re laughing at Phelpstones
you’ll have a yabba dabba doo time.
        A dabba doo time.
You’ll have a gay old time.

        1. *giggling* :D

        2. Pavlos – I think you just won the thread!

          1. Sorry but I accidentally lost a few words mysteriously…maybe an “of” & a “the” but you got it anyway.

        3. David Myers 25 Mar 2011, 12:18am

Definitly the highlight of this thread! Way to go!

  20. Ms Taylor was fierce, I doubt those morons would phase her in the slightest.

They are, of course, a total grift. Threaten to protest and hope that someone either gives them something to stop them (free air time) or hope that someone tries to legally stop them (or hit them) so they can sue. It’s a con, a swindle, a dodge. And I don’t get why the IRS doesn’t go in and tear them apart looking at the books because they receive tax benefits for being a “church” when they are nothing but a family of douche bags.

But hey, this is one more groups of people to add to the list that hates them: GLBTQ people, men and women who serve and their families, the Amish, Comic Con, Anonymous, the entire population of Sweden, and everyone who thought Elizabeth Taylor was great.

  21. I think allow the funeral to continue in a calm and respectful manner – ignore the hate fueled angry mob – if asked for comment from the media – comment on the honour and dignity of Elizabeth Taylor and recognise her, say that the lack of understanding, respect and decency from those protesting is a disgrace and does little to further any argument they may or may not have – but that the graveside is not an appropriate time to have these debates – there will be time in the future when the evil of the WBC will be exposed

    1. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 1:09pm

Better still don’t even mention WBC, they are known to only stick around for media coverage. If they get none…

      1. You may well have a point …

  22. God Hates!

    1. Idonotliketheconeofshame 24 Mar 2011, 11:06am

      God hates hate.

      1. Thats how I have interpreted the messages I have read of the Bible when I have read them …

    2. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 1:10pm

Good Hates Hate but I bet God Loves a Choccie HobNob.

  23. Wow. Get the popcorn and sit back. They say they are going to shout abuse at the funeral of a great cultural icon of gay and straight, religious and non-religious people alike.
They may well bite off a lot more than they can chew.

    1. If they can’t chew, feed them the popcorn, the might choke … uncharitable but amused me ….

  24. Too bad, it’s obvious WBC has never actually read the bible.

These people give real Christians a bad name.

    1. Oh I think its very likely that they’ve read it, cover to cover. But they havent understood its message, and deliberatley misinterpritated huge parts of it. They dont have the intelligence to understand.
I think they may actually be doing some GOOD for gay causes, because the crazier they get, the less people want to be assosiated with them, and the more libral the world becomes in contrast! :-)

      1. Jock S. Trap 24 Mar 2011, 1:13pm

True enough. They are a whole lot of crazy, thats for sure.

    2. They certainly do give Christianity a bad name

Most decent people recognise there are twisted and deranged people in every walk and aspect of life …

      Some are extremely strange

  25. It just goes to show how ill considered their actions are in the scale of what they are dealing with. A huge star, philathropist, and a very human lady who has despite her own afflictions has made such great contributions in her life. The funeral will no doubt attract a large group of gay supporters who will not be in the mood to be taunted. Can I suggest we remeber the circumstnces around the Stonewall riots.

Clearly the WBC dont’! They seem to be oblivious to the risk they are taking.

  26. Of course, since Anonymous has taken down all their web sites, maybe no one will show up because they couldn’t find out what time their bus was leaving.

  27. These WBC ‘people’ have no feelings whatsoever, but then their kind will always have a limited lifespan as they spout nothing but rubbish.

    1. They remind me of a certain gentleman from Waco

  28. Someone should sue them for slander on behalf of God. I can see it now – shortest court case in history:
Attorney: Your Honor, I represent God in the case against Rev. Phelps and the WBC. We are suing on the grounds that God does not hate anyone and he is pissed off at the WBC for their claims.
Rev. Phelps: Hold on! You can’t speak for God!
Attorney: Why not? You claim to.
    Court adjourned.

  29. Maybe the silent angels could put in an appearance as they did at Matthew Shepards funeral so effectively.

  30. Martin Lawrence 24 Mar 2011, 3:23pm

If there’s any people close enough, please go along with banners saying ‘God Hates Child Abusers’ and picket their ‘church’ each Sunday.
And find out why the abuser-in-chief hasn’t been arrested and charged yet.

  31. I don’t see any difference between this lot and the pope and archbishop of canterbury.

    1. Cheap comment

      1. In what way?

        1. @Rapture

Firstly, I think there are plenty of differences between both the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury and WBC … and even on the issue of homosexuality

Whilst I do not hold the same views as any of them on homosexuality (clearly!), I do think there is a spectrum of views ranging from WBC at the most aggressive, offensive and right wing through the the Arhcbishop of Canterbury who fudges the issue repeatedly (in my view) with the Pope somewhere in the middle …

The WBC seem to condone aggressive, quasi violence, and offensive campaigning which I can’t say I have seen or heard the Pope or Archbishop do …

I would like to see leaders of the main Christian churches have a more inclusive approach to LGBT issues and be accepting – that (to my mind) isn’t the case at the moment, however, that does not mean the Pope or the Archbishop are the same as the WBC – easy throw away comment, but doesnt bear scrutiny

          1. obviously my comment does bear scrutiny for you to make that response. The wbc maybe an aggresive face of militant christianity but it is a minute party with minimal influence, a cult associated with sensationalism, offensive but without any real weight. the pope and canterbury bishop are leaders of churches with millions and their homophobia is influential amongst their flock of sheep. The masses which are vulnerable to this promotion of inequality of hate is far more dangerous than that of wbc. rowan williams can use all the subliminally latent, insincere terminology he wishes, but the fact remains he is just as guilty of homophobia as the wbc lunatics.

          2. Jock S. Trap 25 Mar 2011, 12:27pm

They may campaign differently but the message remains the same.

          3. @ jock , agreed ,but on consideration i would say coe and the rc are actually far more dangerous in their message of hate against lgbt as they clearly have broader influence than wbc.

  32. Dame Elizabeth’s funeral must seem like a made-in-hell opportunity for this cult because she was married and divorced several times, was an actress, supported “filthy fag” causes, and converted to Judaism which makes her a “Christ-denying, Christ-defying apostate Jew” on top of everything else. So for the WBC Christmas has come early this year. Except of course, they no doubt hate Christmas along with the endless litany of hatred that consumes and devours their every breathing moment.

  33. In the fantastic doc-drama,”The Laramie Project”,recounting the brutal murder of Mathhew Shepard in Wyoming in ’98,Dozens of people surrounded the funeral cortege dressed all in white with huge ‘angels wings’ held high to try to at least block out the visibility of the WBC & it’s followers. These poisonous low-lifes know they have to remain a certain pre-ordained distance from the site of their demonstration,so those attending Dame Elizabeth’s funeral won’t be in close proximity to the scum.Besides which,I have a sneaky suspicion there’ll be enough ‘fans’ in attendance the WBC won’t get much of a look-in! They’ll become redundant when people cease to give them publicity.

  34. And why wouldn’t they. The WBC is nothing more than a business. It turns up to these events trying to offend people hoping that someone will hit them or deny them rights. They then sue that person and make a killing. They are ambulance chasers of the worst order.

Lets remember Elizabeth Taylor and her great contributions to the world, and forget the vile hate-filled bastards that are the WBC.

  35. I am annoyed that this even made the web!
The Bible is projected in such a negative way these days! God loves everyone, have they read that in the Bible? If you read the Bible, the entire Bible…you understand that God did not want sexual promiscuity. It was only because they were killing people with that sort of thing…if you catch my drift. Not because HE does not want people to live and love each other. The teachings say everything, people always run their mouth’s without the facts! >.<

    1. Nichole, I am sure you are well meaning and I agree that they certainly seem to misunderstand the message of God loving that the majority of the Christian church communicate – however, you seem to be suggesting that HIV was around in Biblical days and it was part of Gods judgement – I don’t agree with that one iota (if I am misunderstanding your message I apologise, but please add some clarity)

  36. Lyn Thomas 24 Mar 2011, 4:33pm

Of course they will not get a look in if she is buried in the Burton family plot, as was her wish at one time. Wales will welcome her.

    1. Paddyswurds 24 Mar 2011, 10:53pm

@ LynnThomas ..No, it was her wish to be buried in Switzerland beside Richard Burton but the current Mrs Burton nixed that idea so she then expressed a wishs be buried beside Michael Jacksoniin LA

  37. Quite frankly I am not surprised that this odious & depraved cult have chosen Dame Elizabeth’s death as the next band wagon upon which to jump.

I sincerely hope her family choose to honour her well documented desire to be buried in Pontrhydyfen, South Wales placing her funeral & final resting place outside the reach of these American fanatics.

Elizabeth Taylor was a Dame of the British Empire, the highest honour possible, and should be afforded a funeral befitting this status. If the US cannot guarantee this, then it seems only proper that she is laid to rest – peacefully & without protest – in the country of her birth.

  38. I really hope they go for it.
Elizabeth Taylor was such a massive icon, doing things like this will only set them against most of America’s populace, and my be the straw that beaks the camel’s back.

It’s a shame they didn’t try it at Michael Jackson’s service.

    1. Liz Taylor fans Vs gaggle of whacky extremists…………ummm, I know where I’m placing my bets!

  39. These people couldn’t organize a piss up in a brewery, as they say where I come from. They did picket Michael Jackson’s memorial service and no-one cared; they tried to make world headlines by burning the Qur’an and nobody cared (except no doubt someone somewhere in the vast Muslim world has made a note of that one). The worst they do is further slice open the wounds of grieving families by picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers. And as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, they will one day, sooner or later, choose the wrong family.

  40. Keith Lynwood 24 Mar 2011, 10:09pm

Thankfully she is being buried today in peace. So no time for religious freaks to organise their usual hatred.

  41. jckfmsincty 24 Mar 2011, 11:02pm

These “church people” are the scum of the earth.

  42. As long as American people tolerate this crap under the name of ‘free speech’, this will continue to happen. Only in America are the rights of these bigots spewing hate speech at people’s funerals are more protected than the rights of people to hold a funeral in peace. But the WBC will continue to do this vile things, because they know the US is just about the only civilised country where they can get away with this kind of crap. In other civilised countries, this is just unthinkable.

  43. While I believe any negative protest at a funeral is despicable, I really hope this lot continue. They are doing more to discredit organised religion than have any catholic priest. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I may even believe these tosspots are secretly funded by a militant gay organsiation. Keep up the excellent work, Phelps’s’s’s. Your are looking increasingly psycho … and are taking the rest of organised religion with you.

    1. Funeral has happened …. were there any protests?

  44. well done pink news you have yet again provided more publicity for these clowns how much are they paying you?

  45. Those are just kids holding the placards. I doubt they even know what they are doing there. Are their parents too afraid to do it?
