Sorry how backward to these idiots in charge need to be?

To prevent a Gay-Straight Alliance being formed…. Why?

Are these the same bigots that preach that persecution of other Christians and Jews is wrong yet happily carry on the exact same bigotry towards people because of their sexual orientation?!

It’s obvious that religion yet again is the cause and shows how out of touch these people are with humanity.

Something is seriously wrong with someones choosen lifestyle taking dominance over how others are born.

    It’s shameful.

“Superintendent of the Flour Bluff Independent School District, Dr. Julie Carbajal claims the school is exempt from the Equal Access Act 1984 thanks to a district approved policy forbidding student clubs meeting on campus if they are not tied to the curriculum.”

So equality and tolerance are not in their curriculum at all?

  3. Typical ‘Tea Party’ style bigotry in the US.

I suggest ‘Flower Bomb’ the board into submission.

If there are other extracurricular groups- what are they?

Is there an inter racial equalities group or is that also beyond the pale cos Texas is/was part of the Confederacy ? Or maybe women’s rights group or is that prohib’d cos it’s a patriarchal US State??
No Disabled equality group either I suppose, can’t be run over by naughty students in wheelchairs after school !

I dread to think what their ‘Glee Club’ is like… If they haven’t banned that too!

Texas is a southern state and the population are mostly white Ulster Scots, distant cousins of the neanderthals causing all the hatred and bigotry in the north of Ireland. Ian Paisly even his theology ordination from there by post. These are descendents of the racists who fought the American Civil War in order to keep slavery. It’s in the bible you know. Btw …this is the state that produced the bush dynasty….remember W… need i say any more.

Form the club and meet off campus as per the instruction to the other clubs – remember to ensure that it is linked to the school via association as with the other clubs. Then when they reinstate the other clubs to campus – take your fully formed club to the school with an application ensuring that your club meets the criteria.

They tried this before in multiple school districts in Utah, and it was found unconstitutional because the sole justification for banning all school clubs were to prevent GSAs.

…there bare some enlightened american states. Massachusetts is very gay friendly and is one of the few states in the world where same sex marriage is sanctioned. GLB rights are strongly protected and encouraged. Massachusetts is ranked third among american states in general enlightment and is a great place to go for a safe and enjoyable gay holiday. Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod is second only to Key West in Florida as a Gay mecca and during the summer months is party time 24/7…….

@Tom….Who mentioned California, hardly a bation of human rights never mind Gay rights. I could find no mention of California anywhere on this comment page other than yours. Were you perchance looking in a mirror when you wrote dimwit??

    2. Boycotts seldom work; it just means that the bigots won’t be exposed to any different viewpoints. There are lots of great gay places in Florida, or you could always try Palm Springs instead, the ultimate gay friendly resort.

I am a student in the GSA at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. We are supporting Nikki in her fight to form her own GSA, including a protest being held tomorrow in front of the high school.

I want to personally thank all of you for all your wonderful and inspiring comments. We truly appreciate all the support! The hatred in this town is choking us and hearing all your thoughtful comments reminds us that we cannot give up.

You have our support Rebekah but whatever happens, regardless of Head teacher and schoolboard interference they can’t prevent straight people ‘fratenizing’ with gay people, club or no club.
If you have to club together in your own time it’s an inconvenience but not an insurmountable roadblock.
And be sure to stick it to them at your protest.

  18. There are some inspirational YA books on this topic – “The Geography Club” by Brent Hartinger about a GSA club under a different name, and “Rainbow Boys” and 2 sequels by Alex Sanchez, which includes a GSA club. Both authors are out gay men who also visit high schools to talk about diversity and tolerance and books.

For holidays in a gay friendly city & country, come to Wellington, New Zealand. From 12 – 19 March would be a good time when over 1,000 LGBT people from 26 countries will be here for the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames. See wellingtonoutgames (dot) com.

    1. Good call Kay! Outgames is going to be a fantastic event & Wellington is very LGBT friendly, as are most Kiwi’s.

Flour Bluff ISD will allow GSA and other groups on campus — at least for now
    Posted on 09 Mar 2011 at 8:33am

Trustees for Flour Bluff High Independent School District approved a resolution late Tuesday night to allow a proposed Gay-Straight Alliance — along with other non-curricular groups — to meet on the school campus, at least temporarily, according to KRISTV, the NBC station in Corpus Christi.

The vote allows the the groups, including a GSA, to meet while the district conducts a study before making a permanent decision. The vote came after nearly five hours, about four of which the trustees spent in a closed executive session discussing the situation.
