  1. I didn’t know Ms Phelps group were including anonymous too in their spouting off. Her group seems more occupied with sex than gay people.

    Personally I’m glad their site is down because although we’ve all heard what they have to say and everyone seems to agree that they try to spread hatred.

      they occupy against those who have created the financial crisis, oppose homophobes, and also stick up for Muslim women who are facing a ban on wearing the veil, because that same ethos affects their right wear face masks to be ‘anonymous’ and to do brilliant things like this.

      They are on the money! I wish we could in the LGBT community be more like this too.

    2. Anonymous is a covert Christian group that wears the mask of Guy Fawkes who was a Catholic terrorist. Why do you think they wear a Catholic’s mask, like the KKK does? They are Catholics and Christians, that is why they attack other religions. The main reason they attack Westboro Baptist church is because the church is an embarrassment to all Christians because of their insane behavior but that is what these people are. If 80% of the western world is Christian that means the majority of Anonymous people are Christian/Catholics.         Because they sue people for a living David. Most of them are attorneys and they look for every single opportunity to annoy people into giving them a settlement.

    2. It consists of the Cryptmaster’s (Fred’s) extended families. Sadly, they made their money as civil rights advocates back in the 1950s. Then Fred had a brain fart, or something. He still beats his adult kids and grandkids to “teach them the ways of the church.” He’s a real horror story. But they’re clever lawyers … clever enough to skirt the edges of the law without being arrested.

    3. They are being bankrolled by the monies the bilked out of there clients, the winnings from lawsuits, and a local banker. The church is essentially made up of family members and a few outsiders that have been indoctrinated. They own nearly a whole block of homes with the church on one side and a tall fence connecting all the properties.

    4. The “church” is pretty much one extended family. They live very well because they are tax free and they primarily are in the lawsuit business. They antagonize people to the point that they get pushed, touched or otherwise assaulted, then they sue.

            3) Then use the web-based JS LOIC to attack a worthy target (with the understanding that one’s prospects of being identified have been diminished–not entirely eliminated).

            The obvious (to me anyway) downside? Large scale DDoS attacks via Tor would slow Tor down for other users.

          3. Upon further thought following the above three steps may only result in the JS LOIC firing at a portion the Tor Anonymity Network and thus substantially slowing it down for no good purpose.

    The Westboro clan are notoriously litigious and seem to use frivolous lawsuits directed at the people they provoke as one of their major sources of income. The first and second generation Phelpses are all qualified lawyers (though Phelps snr. was disbarred a while ago… can’t think why!).

On The David Pakman show he asked Ms Phelps about the site being down and she called him an idiot and said that it was working fine and that she was looking at it while they were talking. :P She’s either in denial or lying through her teeth. Or she’s computer illiterate and was looking at the offline webpage.

  43. A warning to anyone interesting in involving themselves in the activities of Anonymous. There is a suggestion that the WBC began this so that they could sue people/ISPs involved in DDoS attacks. Indeed I heard that there were “honey trap” ports open all over the place on the Westboro sites.

    Word is also going around that the WBC are running short on funds and this is a fundraiser ploy to them.

    Keep in mind, friends, that the WBC is only a “church” for tax purposes. Mostly it is a grift – pick a hot topic and deliberately cause outrage so that people will try and stop them, people who are in turn sued. It’s a con. A swindle. A dodge. A cult of family members who have tuned in to a way to make $$$.

    As much as I would dearly invite Phelps-Roper to make herself a cup of Kool-aid, I suspect that she is just a phoney, not a zealot (despite the manic eye rolling and gurning like an imbecile she did in the debate).

            The book of Leviticus is from the old testament of the bible, rendering it pretty much obsolete by modern religious standards (not to mention obsolete by society’s standards).

            Let’s remember that Leviticus also requires bloody sacrifice, forbids shellfish and many other archaic rituals.

            The new testament is the teachings of Christ and considered to be true Christianity. There is nowhere in the new testament which forbids or demonises homosexuality.

            They are used in everything from Horoscopes to Nostradamus prophesy to cold reading with so-called psychics.
            Throw out a vague prediction such as “2012 will spell disaster”, or ask a room of 2000 people “is there someone here called John whose mother is unwell… or perhaps you know someone called John”. In either case there’s a statistical likelyhood that something or someone will vaguely fit the bill, and the imagination of the audience is left to fill in the gaps and mentally erase any ‘duds’.

    1. Education has nothing to do with it. The majority of WBC are highly educated. Many of them are lawyers, attorneys, instructors, and so on.

      1. Education has everything to do with it. Religion is the domain of the lower intelligence and the poorly educated, and many studies show that.The fact that a few nutters in the WBC are lawyers means nothing.

    1. Freedom of speech is a myth. If you don’t believe me, just publish what the government does behind closed doors and get on the most wanted list like Julien Assange. Those in power prefer political correctness over honesty and veracity.

      1. If you seem to think that the WBC are “honest” and have “voracity”, as you put it, then you need a clinical physiology exam. They have the compassion and reasoning kills of rabid animals, and for you to defend says a lot about your own mental state.

        1. I defend people’s rights. That includes the right to have “poor reasoning skills.” Hacking into people’s websites is not a right – it is a crime.

    @ mbhey101 why do people like you invest the Bible with an authority is does not actually posess? Its a book, or rather a series of books compiled into a single volume from 100s of available texts some of which someone decided not to include in the final version. It does have consciousness or self awareness, it cannot think or feel for you.

  86. Hmmmm, I’m not so sure this is a good thing..don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t stand WBC and what they did or stood for, but this anonymous group is starting to cross lines in my opinion. They can’t just shut down someone’s webpages because they don’t like it! How far can they take it/will they take it?! No matter if we like it or not, they ARE allowed to have difference of opinion. Isn’t that what the LGBT community supports too? 

    I’m a Christian. I’ve had religious discussions with gay/lesbian/bi people where we both were respectful and heard eachother out. I actually feel closer to them because we could be open and share ideas. THAT’S how it should be and in this case between anonymous and WBC, both are taking their own personal agendas too far.

  90. As an evangelical Christian I found the Phelps’ Church’s campaigns an offence against the teaching of Christ which is based on love. As a heterosexual I do not hate homosexuals. Sexuality is not at the core of my being and is broadly irrelevant to the life I lead. As an individual I claim the right to free speech and, in particular, the right to dissent from fashionable ideas and that includes the right to disagree without being labelled a bigot. It’s regrettable that there are still those who seek to characterise all Christians as living in the Dark Ages.

  92. Anyone watch the US version of Queer as Folk? Teddy makes an amazing speech to his friend (who was trying to become straight) about how God made us and doesn’t make mistakes, so he loves *everyone*. I’m not religious, but using a religion that claims to love everyone unconditionally to spread hate is disgusting.
