  1. God is he still going on about this? I wish he’d change the record he is getting rather tiresome!

  2. Mr. Scott Aron John Reynolds 21 Feb 2011, 9:55pm

What About The 20 Plus Millionaires In The Government Cabinet, Surely That Isn’t Over Kill/Quota :/

There’s Less Millionaires In The Uk Than Gay & Lesbain People, Yet He See’s No Troubles With That Over QUOTA :/

This Man Shouldn’t Be An Lord, Let Alone In The Past An MP :/

It Just Shows Torys Never Change, Yet The People Of The Uk FALL For It Ever Few Years :/

  3. Mr. Scott Aron John Reynolds 21 Feb 2011, 9:57pm

This Man Is Homphobic Old Full & Its Hard To Believe Anyone Can Get An Fair Hearing With Old Bigots Like Him In The House Of Lords :/

  4. The only way this idiot can get publicity is to come out with bigoted crap like this. No-one is listening to anything he says…

  5. You’d think someone that’s going to be dead in the next 10 years would learn to let go a bit.

I hate this gay adoption crap too (oh no, here comes a rant)… I live with a lesbian, who is the mum of my best friend, who is gay. She has three other children, all whom are straight. One son at university, one son a healthy very intelligent 13 year old who so far seems to show interest in girls (and was born through artificial insemination), and a daughter with a good job, own house, and in a long term relationship. No ill effect has been brought about by being raised by a single, lesbian mother.

It’s disgusting that ignorant old fashioned twits like this man continue to hold stereotypical and damaging views that have no foundation in evidence.

    Rant over.

  6. ….one of the Provisional IRAs biggest mistakes was in not succeeding in getting rid of this fool. He is making, along with several others of his ilk, the Uk a laughing stock around the world.
This is the idiot who opined we should all get on our bikes in pursuit of work, last time the odious Law and justice Tories were in power, when nearly 6 million were out of work because of tory policies. De ja vu methinks. The only consolation one has tho, is that they, along with the vile LibDems will be history come next elections and that is a fact.

  7. There’s no fool like an old fool!

  8. Lord Tebbit is wrong on many things, he is even wrong on Ted Heath, Tebbit just wasn’t asked to the really good parties Ted threw.

  9. Let’s not forget that in spite of David Cameron’s new, gay friendly facade (somewhat undermined by his previous voting record on gay equality) that Tebbit is still there in the “post Section 28″ Tory party. He has more support than the people running the election campaigns would like us to know.

  10. Steve@GayWebHosting 21 Feb 2011, 10:51pm

This sick tory bigot has always made me sick… Nothing new today then.. The problem for me is that he (continues) to have a say in politics and events..

He was ´rewarded´ for his years of bigotry with a ´lordship´ and now continues to sit in the legislature of this land.. WHY?

His views are still out of date.. His opinions (and language) odious. What is he doing there? He is one of the greatest adverts for scrapping the honours system… I am all for a second chamber, but it should be elected. In a real democracy, there is no room for such a thing as we currently have with the lords..

There should be no automatic places given out as ´rewards´ for years of miss-management of the country, and there must be no automatic entitlement for members of the clergy either..

If they want to be in the upper chamber, let them stand for election..

It is just not right that this man has ANY say in anything to do with how we live our lives anymore..

The true definition of a homophobe!

  11. I wonder if he’ll get on his high horse when the extra bit of legislation for the religious CP will be discussed in May?

I think marriage equality is Cameron big chance of showing he has moved on from Thatcher’s die hards…

Keep on talking Tebbit , you’re such an old fool….just shows what type of person is in the house of lords, he’ll drag himself in there to vote until he drops dead regardless of how gaga everybody things he is – get rid of the house of lords, that’s what Cameron and Clegg should do!

  12. de Villiers 21 Feb 2011, 11:11pm

    > ….one of the Provisional IRAs biggest mistakes was in not succeeding in getting rid of this fool.

Wanting death to those who are not liberal is worse then anything that Tebbit has said.

  13. de Villiers 21 Feb 2011, 11:11pm

    > ….one of the Provisional IRAs biggest mistakes was in not succeeding in getting rid of this fool.

Wanting death to those who are not liberal is worse than anything that Tebbit has said.

  14. Oh! Norm, dear Norm, you just didn’t know sailor Ted as well as some did cos he was Blanche he was. We get the message Norm, you and Maggie are nashing on your cold porridge in the ‘Twilight home for the perpetually confused’, all the while we gay boys and girls are out having fun, sorta’ makes ya bitter don’t it old gal? What rancid old toss pot?

  15. de villers …and you think this fossil wouldn’t want death for all “faggots” as he is wont to call us in private. Wake up and smell the vitriol from the Law and Justice Tories.

  16. “someone that’s going to be dead in the next 10 years would learn to let go a bit”

If posters cannot be civil, they should not post/ I write as someone who in all likelihood will not reach 73, but I have no intention of shutting up to suit the likes of Chris. I disagree with Norman Tebbitt but defend his right to talk tosh.

  17. de Villiers 21 Feb 2011, 11:47pm

    > de villers …and you think this fossil wouldn’t want death for all “faggots” as he is wont to call us in private.

No. I think that he does not want death for “faggots”. And in any event, I am against the death-penalty, extra-judicial killing, and terrorist murder more than I am against a tired old man spouting on about the death of society due to the gays.

  18. A desperate rant from an old fool on his way out – made important by those who are broadcasting it.

  19. Helen Wilson 22 Feb 2011, 12:26am

It seems Norman Tebbit has gotten tired of abusing his local Chinese community for celebrating new year!

Members of the hose of Lords should be subject to a mental competency test every five years. In the case of Tebbit one is long overdue! The people of the Cambridgeshire town he lives in can confirm his irrational behaviour.

Anglia new has had several report on the crazy things he has done to local people.

  20. Helen Wilson 22 Feb 2011, 12:27am

That should be: Members of the house of Lords

  21. Dan – the only difference though it that Tebbitt can vote in the house of lords, he is unelected and doesn’t represent anyone apart from himself… it’s not fair and unjust and undemocratic that someone whose counterparts have long been kicked out of govt is still there! He’ll have voting rights until he dies or has lost his mind , that’s all they have to do is wheel in him to the house of lords and as long as he can still put a cross “on down with the gays” on the voting sheet then that’s all is required… that’s a lot more than freedom of speech!!

I suspect Cameroon would love to see the back of him!

  22. Hell wont be full til this dinosaur is in the hottest part of it…..

  23. …..pfft..!!

  24. Well, the good news for him is that he probably won’t live to see gay marriage become law in the next couple of years.

    I hope he does though!

    Karma’s a bitch!

  25. What you have to understand is that this man has lived for eighty years in that time the world has changed quite a bit. Particularly in the area of gay rights, presence and acceptance, men like him find it very hard to adjust to a changing world, he’s a hard core conservative and by definition a conservative resists change, he has made a mildly homophobic comment but I ask this, who cares? If the man in question wasn’t a distinguished statesman with a stubborn and sometimes bigoted attitude would this of even been news?

  26. Ignore Tebbit – he’s the past and he’s old and he couldn’t change his spots even if he wanted to. The last UK (Labour) government had to be dragged kicking and screaming through the European Courts before they condescended to grant us our rights, and even then many Labour MPs had to be threatened with dire consequences before they reluctantly voted them through the House of Commons.

Contrast that record with this UK Conservative/LibDem coalition) government which gained power and then announced off its own bat that it would make Gay Marriage legal and allow religious institutions to perform the ceremony if they wished to.

Oh, and all you leftists who feel that Tories are evil ——- the last time I checked the UK was still a democracy with the freedom to dissent from the mystical leftist propaganda and claptrap about right and wrong touted by so many of the ‘loony lefty’ commenters at this site as if they should be God’s ordained and perpetual rulers and arbiters: thank God they’re not!

Some of us – a significant proportion of the UK population – are not left wing and we dissent from your points of view and your salami slicing tactics of insult, innuendo and stereotyping at sites such as this one. I am Gay and I am Conservative and I am out and proud about both of those attributes.

But, and note this but well, that does not mean to say that I think that Lord Tebbit is, or was, correct: I don’t think that. I’m just sick of the ‘loony left’ mouthing off at every chance it gets in order to belittle and intimidate the opposition — oops, sorry, I forgot; that’s just what the left always and everywhere does – threatens, bullies and intimidates.

  27. Luke from Canada 22 Feb 2011, 4:51am

why do they always sound like raving lunatics when going off about gay rights etc? Perhaps i am biased but those who are for gay rights sound a lot more normal

  28. Most Tories think like tebbit and being good at pr keep it to themselves. Cameron will not challenge him. The left are just as bad there is a London based faith Organisation which is supported by labour which is openly homophobic and does include gay organisations

  29. Tom Stoppard 22 Feb 2011, 8:10am

    He is irrelevant

  30. @john mj – no it isn’t and you are as bad against the left as you IMAGINE the left are about the right
I agree it’s wrong to wish death on people but when the bigots rant then the best tool is always going to be to oppose them and deconstruct their bigotry and show the world how wrong they are and why, showing this is gonna be more beneficial, for example – his attitude to asylum shows how little he knows or understand or cares that people are dying, he’s wrong about adoption etc anyway

  31. Jock S. Trap 22 Feb 2011, 8:41am

Blimey Tebbit clearly wanting a bit of press coverage.

Nothing new here just an ol has been ranting but giving the biggest hint to why it is that David Cameron and Nick Clegg are in charge and not Tits-Up Tebbit.

He’s a homophobe and speaks for the 1980s. Sadly like many people thats where he’ll always remain.

  32. Sad fcukwit
Why does Tebbitt’s claimed 2% of the population get him so passionately aroused?…I wonder!

  33. Lord Tebbit told the New Statesman that no gay minister should be Home Secretary because “the Home Office is responsible for laws affecting society – the adoption of children and the strengthening of the family. It is better not in the care of someone who doesn’t feel for those issues.”

So presumably women don’t stand a chance with a male Home Secretary, old people don’t stand a chance with a young Home Secretary.

This guy has lost what few marbles he had. I think he would actually be happier in the undemocratic Arab world he refers to as they have actually got more in common with his views.

  34. “no gay minister should be Home Secretary because “the Home Office is responsible for laws affecting society – the adoption of children and the strengthening of the family. It is better not in the care of someone who doesn’t feel for those issues.”

What? I have no brother, sister, mother, cousins, partner? What about gay people who DO have children, do they not “feel” a family?

How do people feel so brave as to say such ridiculous and un-democratic statements in public?

  35. Has anyone got the garlic and a bright light?

  36. Whilst I do think Lord Tebbit should be able to say whatever he wants, I still can’t help but wish he would shut his pie hole.

  37. Why is he not dead yet?

  38. @John MJ — the voting records of the parties are very different on LGBT equality. The coalition’s introduction of Equal Marriage (I presume this is what you mean when you write ‘Gay Marriage’) if it happens is to be unconditionally welcomed.

However, the reality of the situation is that the Conservative party has a shocking record on LGBT rights and equality. People haven’t forgotten Section 28, and I think the anger over it isn’t diminishing. It’s difficult to ignore people like Tebbitt and Edward Leigh when they aren’t challenged by people in their party.

When you say “Some of us – a significant proportion of the UK population – are not left wing and we dissent from your points of view …” what do you mean by your points of view ?

Could you explain what you mean when you continue “… and your salami slicing tactics of insult, innuendo and stereotyping at sites such as this one” ? What is ‘salami slicing’ ? Could you give an example please ?

  39. Quote . . .

He also told the magazine that there are too many gays in the government:

“If you accept that the male homosexual population is two per cent, it does seem to be a bit over quota.”

    . . . . . . . . . .

When Tebbit says that male homosexuals are 2% of the population (not an official estimate), this makes him sound like one of those Fundamentalist Christian who always resort to the numbers game; when trying to argue why we should be left out of civil society.

Shame on Tebbit . . . this is not in the spirit of the liberal conservative notion of civil society.

    In a nut shell . . . Extremist !!!

  40. John MJ :- “‘loony lefty’ commenters at this site as if they should be God’s ordained and perpetual rulers and arbiters: thank God they’re not!”

Not everyone believes in a mystical pixie god either. So, thank who you like for your conservative providence, but don’t assume everyone to be a god-fearing christian, and that everyone thanks a fictional god for their political point of view.

Also, oddly enough, you refer to statements that “threatens, bullies and intimidates”, yet you go on to call anyone with a liberal point of view as being from the “loony left”. Hypocrisy is usually the trademark of the right wing, so perhaps a spoon of your own medicine there John.

  41. Gay and Tory, the perfect example of……

Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding conflicting ideas simultaneously. The theory of cognitive dissonance proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance. They do this by changing their attitudes, beliefs, and actions. Dissonance is also reduced by justifying, blaming, and denying. It is one of the most influential and extensively studied theories in social psychology.

Thanks to wikipedia for the definition.

  42. This is more than enough reason to call for the abolition of the House of Lords once and for all. Its an anachronism, undemocratic, infested with anti-gay clerics who are overwhelmingly Tory and does NOT represent the people. Time for it to end and with that, disestablish the C of E.

  43. Norman Tebbit said a thing, world spins on axis, news at 11, etc.

He is in the top five of my list of homophobes who probably secretly want it up the bum. I haven’t decided who the others are yet.

  44. I thought Norman Tebbit was dead ! (Maybe he’s come back as a zombie?….. Most of the Cabinet are acting as if they are dead from the neck up by destroying education.NHS,welfare and public services. (See Prof John Quiggins’ book.:Zombie Economics (USA 2010)

Worse still was a report over the weekend that InJustice Sec Ken Clarke may be replaced by (eek, get the garlic back, Michael-he of the night,Howard !)
Both Howard and Tebbit are notorious phobes, i’m surprised the latter doesn’t go off and join the EDL.
As for the Dreary Torylaugh- what a waste of paper….

  45. saynotommmmm 22 Feb 2011, 4:49pm

I think that adoption by homosexual couples is unsatisfactory for the child.
as opposed to some one like you self Mr Tebbit, bigoted, bitter and unforfilled.

  46. saynotommmmm, so you think every straight single parent MUST be married to raise a child? What about widows and widowers with children, unfit? Studes by American child psychiatrists have found that children raised by same-sex couples often fare a lot better in school than a lot raised by natural or adoptive straight parents. Just because two parents are the same sex, doesn’t preclude the child from having good role models of the opposite gender in their lives, such as relatives and friends of the couple. You’re statement is flawed and has no substance or facts to back it up.

  47. What an excuse for a man.

  48. “saynotommmmm, so you think every straight single parent MUST be married to raise a child?”

They were just quoting Lord T. there, old chap. Was a bit hard to tell, though, I agree.

  49. Ciaran McDermott 22 Feb 2011, 7:01pm

Same old right wing rubbish from as someone pointed out earlier an old fosil that is Norman Tebbit

The only people who are remotely interested in this are the right wing Torygraph and the Daily Smail

Nothing new wouldn`t expect anything else really from a right wing Bigot

  50. Celia, thanks for the pointing that out. I had erroneously construed that saynotommmm had made the quote since it wasn’t with inverted commas. I should have realised it was Tebbit’s. My sincere apologies to saynotommmm.

  51. PinkPolitico 22 Feb 2011, 7:38pm

An odious bigot who is the perfect symbol of the rampant homophobia that existed in 80s Britain under Thatcher. The likes of Tebbit would love to return to that era when the UK had one of the worst gay rights records in Europe as opposed to now when the country is something of an international leader in the area of LGBT equality.

And yes I agree with other posters – this bitter has-been is a perfect example of why the House of Lords either needs to be democratically elected or abolished.

  52. Is this fool in the House of Lords?

It’s time to replace the Upper House with a democratically elected chamber.

  53. de villiers …so you think being anti bigot anti homophobic ranting racist old fool is “liberal” do you? Says a lot about you i’d say. Let me guess: you belong to the Law and Justice Tory party. No , i say it’s natural justice, but then thats something the Tories are sorely wanting and i as an Irish man know that only too well.

  54. de Villiers 22 Feb 2011, 11:29pm

    No.

  55. Michael Inkpin-Leissner 20 Mar 2012, 11:29am

Well, what shall one expect from “Lord” Tebbit? Just ignore him, he is not worth the attention, that bitter old man!
