A biopic of J Edgar Hoover without any overt mention of his cross dressing? That would be kind of ignoring the elephant in the room.
I think they should do it as “FBI, the musical” ;)
Never mind the thousands of Americans he imprisoned for being communist (despite them probably just being socialists) and the hundreds of thousands he cost their jobs with commie allegations.
Lets focus on him being a cross dresser and probably gay!
I would lover for America to be really honest with itself about this dark period of its history. Its comparable with the Salem witch trials.
They probably won’t depict his duplicity, blackmailing, and involvement in the JFK Assassination cover-up, if not the assassination itself. He and LBJ ran the post assassination cover-up and they were both present at Clint Murchison’s house during a party followed by a closed meeting on the night prior to the assassination. After leaving the meeting, LBJ said to his mistriss, “After tomorrow those SOB Kennedys will never embarass me again. That’s not a threat, that’s a promise.”
I hate it when Hollywood gets heterosexual actors play gay roles depicting some famous or well-known homosexual. More of that hypocritical American moral at work. But as usual it’s all about money, not about authenticity.
I refuse to see this movie as I did not see “Milk”. With so many talented gay actors it’s outrageous Hollywood makes millions out of gay people’s life stories while at the same time blatantly discriminating against homosexuals within the industry itself, forcing them to stay in the closet or otherwise find themselves without roles. I find it unacceptable.

As forthis film, is there any reason for focussing on his repressed homosexuality other than scandal value?

I can’t wait for this. If Black can bring the same authenticity to J Edgar as he did for Milk it will be brilliant
