An East Yorkshire man suffered a “vicious” beating by youths who hurled anti-gay abuse at him before attacking him, police say.
The victim, 45, was set upon in Southgate, Market Weighton, at around 10.30pm on Sunday night.
Police say he was walking along Southgate when the gang began shouting homophobic abuse at him.
He was then attacked and believes he was knocked unconscious.
He suffered bruises and a cut.
It is not known where the gang went next. Police are looking at CCTV images from the area.
Sergeant Peter Rogers, of the Pocklington and Wolds Weighton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, asked passersby to come forward if they had seen the attack.
He said: “This is a particularly unpleasant and vicious attack which could have had far more serious consequences for the victim.
“The fact it occurred on a main arterial road into Market Weighton may mean there were witnesses to this incident, and we would ask anybody who saw anything to contact Humberside Police at Pocklington.”
