I can forecast what will happen. They will sooner or later have a screen kiss, and the religious right and opportunistic politicians will wade in about it being before 9pm. Then after the soap ratings have done their slight upward blip, the characters will leave Corrie within 2 years.
That’s the problem with soaps – they see gay story lines as ‘use and throw away’. Instead of integrating the LGB characters into the weave of all the storylines, they use em and throw them away. I cannot see either actor still being around for 10, 20 or 30 years like Bill Roche, not that he is a model of excitingness.

  2. They’ve had several onscreen kisses and a sex scene.

  3. Corrie seem pretty committed to this storyline as far as I’m concerned. They knew it would cause controversy yet they have pressed along quietly and carefully, and let’s not forget it’s been going on for many months now.

    Dan -
Sadly, I think you’re right. Adam and Ian in The Archers seem to be the sole exception to this dismal rule.
Let’s see if it’s better this this time round.

  7. I don’t think they’re going to fade away. I could see them being part of the street until they both leave to go to Uni, and surely that’s a natural progression? Two years of a relationship? Surely Corrie is the best out there for LGBT characters, Sean, Todd, Hayley….

I think that this has been a wonderful storyline, I guess the haters (even within our community) will always find something to hate.
