    1:50 PM — The United States said on Friday that it would seek to have a reference to gays and lesbians returned to a UN resolution condemning violence. Last month, a UN vote removed mention of gays and lesbians from a resolution which condemns extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions and other killings.

    11:08 AM — The secretary-general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has called for homosexuality to be decriminalised globally. Speaking last Friday on Human Rights Day, Mr Ban said that people were "not put on this planet to live in fear of their fellow human beings" and that human rights must trump cultural attitudes.

    3:36 PM — Italian police have arrested a gang in Rome for allegedly drugging and robbing at least 50 tourists outside a gay bar. The gang was arrested after one of its alleged victims was found dead in Colle Oppio park.

    1:04 PM — A Christian couple who are being sued for banning gay couples from sharing rooms at their Cornwall hotel are expected to claim they were set up by Stonewall. Peter and Hazelmary Bull, who own the Chymorvah Private Hotel in Cornwall, are being sued for discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.

    11:22 AM — The founding president of US group Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) has died at the age of 90. Adele Starr reacted badly when her son came out in 1974 but overcame her negative feelings to establish the support group for the loved ones of gays and lesbians.

    10:08 PM — Sir Elton John has told Piers Morgan that he was “very close” to dying from his addiction to drugs and drink. Sir Elton was interviewed for Piers Meets Elton: A Life Stories Special on ITV 1. He used the interview to say that he was “biggest junkie there ever was”.

    3:17 PM — A prominent gay journalist in San Diego has been found dead after apparently jumping from a seven-storey hotel. Michael Portantino, 52, was the publisher of the weekly San Diego's Gay and Lesbian Times, which he bought in 1989.

    2:28 PM — A Christian writer plans to go on a three-week pilgrimage to "repent" of his past homophobia. Symon Hill, the associate director of the pro-gay Ekklesia thinktank, says he will walk from Birmingham to London and speak at churches along the way to encourage Christians to rethink their views on homosexuality.
