when will we experience a period of silence from Reg?!

He’s famous for some innovative music DECADES ago, and now famous for being famous.

  2. POOR CHILD! Absolute disgrace!! How far these social experiments are going to go victimising children?

  3. Up yours

I guess you think straight couples like baby p parents would be dickhead

    1. I can’t understand you.. can you please write in English?

  4. wow begrudgers. This child will have the best of everything from parents who genuinely wanted a hild. Good luck to them all. It would have been better if they could have adopted a child who needed a home, but so many obstacles were placed in their way. This was their chance. Leave them alone.

  5. Academic youre scum

  6. Congratulations to Reg and David.

I’m not being nasty, but I hope David is the biological father. Elton John at 63 really is too old to be bringing children into the world. And with his history of hardcore drug addiction the child would possibly be genetically predisposed to addiction.

I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will be the godfather?

  7. “This child will have the best of everything from parents who genuinely wanted a child.”

Considering Elton’s age I hope he’ll be able to stick around until the child is an adult.

I think there is something extremely irresponsible about pensioners becoming parents.

“Good luck to them all. It would have been better if they could have adopted a child who needed a home, but so many obstacles were placed in their way”

The main ones being Elton’s age andf the fact that he is a recovering junkie. No responsible adoption agency would give a child to a pensioner drug addict.

I’m not being mean when I say this. This is how these agencies operate.

Reg would have been deemed an unsuitable parent for adoption
(and would have been, even if he’d been straight.)

I understand your fear is that this will victimise Children, but what is the evidence for this?

  9. They’re too old, like with the Romanian woman who gave birth in her 60s. There is simply no thought for the child and the fact that as older parents their death is more likely to be sooner than someone in their 20s or 30s. It’s part of the ‘I want, so I shall have’ culture in the showbiz world. What 63 year old gay man on the street would have such an opportunity? None. And nor would anyone adopting of that age.

Pure selfishness, but it’s too late now. Good luck to the kid.

  10. Jill Taylor 28 Dec 2010, 2:15pm

    So wrong and disgusting.

  11. Good luck to the pair of them – parents who wanted a child so badly they went to extraordinary lengths. If only all parents were this committed to their children. Lucky kid.

  12. Jill Taylor – what is disgusting is people who write off other people for no reason rather than getting to know individuals for who they are. If you have children I pity them.

  13. I would remind everyone that David is only in his late forties. He will very likely live for another fifty years, and Elton could live for another thirty five. Elton has also recently announced his retirement from music, no doubt so that he can actually spend time with the child after all the difficulties of bringing it into the world (for straight or gay parents, if you cannot conceive a child naturally the process of becoming parents is long and hard, as several of our family friends have experienced)

My own aunt and uncle are David’s age and have a two year old and a six month old. They may have older parents, but they were very much wanted and are very much loved. Perhaps as a result of the fact that they have waited longer, the parents have more wisdom and they treasure their children as almost “miracle” childen. My cousins came at the right moment in their lives. So I say good on David and Elton for being responsible and waiting until the right time to have children rather than diving in when they are not ready. These children will be more loved and more wanted than many kids of young parents who conceive as a result of carelessness.

I wish them all the best. It’s the hardest journey in the world, and the most terrifying, but also the most rewarding. I say, judge not and give them a chance. They might surprise everyone.

  14. Everything these days is being driven by and for these rich white uber-gays so get used to it.

  15. “parents who wanted a child so badly they went to extraordinary lengths. If only all parents were this committed to their children. Lucky kid.”

    Unlucky kid you mean.

Just because a pensioner WANTS a child does not mean it is appropriate to have one.(and it doesn’t matter if you are gay or straight; male or female) to wait until they are a pensioner to have a child. They are putting their own needs and wishes above those of the child.

Perhaps Elton will hire the surrogate mother as the nanny (I certainly can’t picture Reg or David getting up at 4am to feed the child.)

  16. OK – I agree that the age of E J could perhaps be a problem were he to prematurely pop his clogs – but there’s his other parent, who seems like a really good, sensitive and caring chap – very necessary qualities in any parent of whatever gender.
No doubt, he’ll receive the best of everything but let’s hope that this doesn’t lead to his being spoilt and becoming a Windsor Brat. God knows, there are enough of them around!

  17. What a farce that this is “Elton John and David Furnish’s” son, or that they are the “parents” of this poor little boy. They still needed a sperm and an egg, didn’t they? This unfortunate baby will grow up in a deliberately-motherless home, with sodomy practitioners as role models. Shame on Elton John and David Furnish, and the true mother of this child, for abusing him so!

  18. Ancilla, this is a disgraceful thing to say. You deserve as much reviling as academic (No 2) There is nothing whatsoever “wrong” in two men bringing up a child – at least he or she wouldn’t grow up to be ridiculous, narrow-minded biggots!

  19. To the narrow minded breeders on this page: Sir Elton and David are Gay, they have a child, GET OVER IT !!

  20. Seriously WRONG!
I have no problem with a gay couple adopting, but I do about their age.

No adoption agency in the UK would allow any 63yo to take on children.
The boy’s ‘fathers’ are going to be in their 80′s, (if still alive, knowing Elton’s past excesses), when the boy finally reaches adulthood.

If he had wanted this, he should have done it years ago.

  21. Hmmm BBC News have Steven Green (Christian Voice) giving opinion on this on the 6pm news. This is nothing new just the profile of the parents is higher. But I guess religionists like Thompson (Head of the BBC and papist) and Green (rabid evangelical and bankrupt) hate to acknowledge gay parents even exist.

Heterosexuals are the greatest risk to children when it comes to all types of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual and spiritual)

Lets not forget the biggest cases of child abuse in this country and around the globe have mostly been done by Christianity and Catholicism.

  22. I don’t see people condemning the likes of Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, when they have had children at older ages than Elton John has!

  23. Baby p parents were hetrosexual

  24. Congratulations to them! Yes, they could have thought about it sooner, but I’d rather they bring a child into the world when they feel ready rather than according to some biological timescale.

Elton might be older, but, as Helen says, there are lots of men in their sixties who’ve become fathers. Elton and David’s wealth and celebrity alone will ensure this child doesn’t have a ‘normal’ childhood so i suspect that one of his dads being a bit older than some won’t really matter compared to that.

  25. Ancilla, you really need to get out more. You must think about sex all the time – pretty typical for a ‘christian’, I’ve found. It’s called tranferal – tranferring your own sense of unworthiness onto others. Elton and David or you? I’d know which I’D choose to adopt a child…

  26. nothing to do with adoption agencies or age, it’s a private business. They are perefectly entitiled do whatever straights couples do..if a straight middle aged, druggy popstar can marry a 40 somehting and get a surrogate mother to produce a baby then so can a gay popstar….

  27. “I don’t see people condemning the likes of Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, when they have had children at older ages than Elton John has!”

You must have been avoiding the news. There were many articles questioning the wisdom of pensioner Rod Stewart fathering another child at his pensionable age,

  28. Personally I think Rod Stewart, Michael Douglas etc are grossly selfish and irresponsible fathering children they may not survive to see to adulthood.

Elton JOhn is equally irresponsible and selfish (and possibly an even more irresponsible candidate thanks to his hardcore addiction problems).

Then again Elton John has no issue profiting from the proceeds of homophobia or apartheid (hiring himself out as the wedding singer for a homophobe; and as a performer at a series of concerts in Sun City, Johannesburg at the height of the apartheid regime).

Why would Elton care that he may be dead by the time his child reaches adulthood. Elton John’s top priority has always been Elton John.

  29. “What 63 year old gay man on the street would have such an opportunity?”

Well, any 63 year old gay man capable of todging off into a syringe and getting a lady to successfully impregnate herself with it could have a child if he wanted

  30. 2020… All the rich gay men are married and live in their gated communities, with their adopted and surrogate childen. Many of them are right-wing and in favour of the closure of separate gar bars, clubs and community facilities, which they say we don’t need anymore because we (they) are no different to heterosexuals. Some are MPs and support the crackdown on cruising areas. What is left of the gay media is controlled by the same people and reflects their position and interests. Homophobia, transphobia, attacks and murders are at an all time high but rarely get reported. Anyone who can’t or won’t fit into the mirror-image heterosexual lifestyle has never had it so bad, is excluded and marginalised in much the same way as all LGBT prior to the 1980′s.

  31. Helen: Hmmm BBC News have Steven Green (Christian Voice) giving opinion on this on the 6pm news. This is nothing new just the profile of the parents is higher. But I guess religionists like Thompson (Head of the BBC and papist) and Green (rabid evangelical and bankrupt) hate to acknowledge gay parents even exist.

The BBC’s standard practice is to let homophobes have a say with any story that’s LGBT-related. However the corporation doesn’t give racists a say when the story has a racial diversity aspect.

  32. Why are there homophobes on Pink News?

    Closet homos.

Anyway, congrats to Elton and his partner.

  33. Congratulations to them both, what lovely news. I hope this encourages more gay men to become fathers. Being gay doesn’t stop people’s nurturing/parental urges and gay couples have as much to offer as straight couples.

  34. Aww this is lovely good luck to Elton and David! It doesnt matter about Eltons age or the fact it is two men raising a child, the child is going to be surrounded with loving parents which is all that matters. To all those spewing their hatred please get over yourselves and stop being narrow-minded bigots, this child is lucky to have such loving parents because an awful lot of poor children don’t.

  35. Mr_Maboose 30 Dec 2010, 3:20am

Sorry Ms Thing but you are way too old to bring a child into this world no matter how much money you have. How sad that Gays want to be straight. Bring back the edgy Queers.

  36. All the best wishes to parents and the baby. They will be enormously happy together. A child born out of desire and love not from a drunken night out. Bless you all. Happy New Year and for all your wishes to come true.

  37. Brilliant news and congratulations to both of them.
This child is far better off than the hundreds that are born to unwilling and uncaring hetro parents every year. There are so many children in dreadful situations created by accidents and for the wrong reasons.
Zachery has been born into a family through love and careful planning, a wonderful start that all children should have. He is a lucky baby.

SamB . . . Very good questions, one which keeps me thinking about the motivation behind peoples homophobia
