    ‘Paperboy’ wins Green Carnation gay book award

    6:00 PM — 'Paperboy' by Christopher Fowler has won the Green Carnation prize for gay men's fiction and memoirs. The novel recounts the author's lonely early years in suburban London and was described by judges as a "rich and astute evocation of a time and a place [recalling] a childhood at once eccentric and endearingly ordinary".

    5:03 PM — A anti-gay Christian group is campaigning to have an iPhone app against gay marriage reinstated. Apple removed the Manhattan Declaration app from its iTunes store last week after media attention but the Christian group is calling for supporters to sign a petition to have it returned to the site.

    4:23 PM — Republican senator John McCain has criticised the Pentagon study on repealing the ban on out gay troops. Mr McCain, who is against repeal, said that the study was flawed because it looked at how the law could be repealed, instead of whether doing so would benefit the military.

    2:36 PM — A second gay couple have been barred from applying to marry in Greenwich, south-east London. David Watters and Richard Hull's rejection follows the Rev Sharon Ferguson and her partner Franka Streitzel being denied a marriage at Woolwich registry office last month.

    1:37 PM — The prime minister of Kenya claims he never said that gays and lesbians should be arrested. Raila Odinga was recorded discussing homosexuality at a rally last Sunday but says he was misquoted.

    11:28 AM — A gay man has won joint custody of the two children he had through artficial insemination with a lesbian couple. The company director, of Sussex, had been battling the children's lesbian mother and her civil partner over where they should live.

    Illinois is expected to legalise civil unions

    10:16 AM — The Illinois senate has given a green light to civil marriage legislation by 32-24 votes. Democratic Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign the bill into law shortly, making Illinois the fifth US state to allow civil unions.
