NHS West Kent is also ceasing referrals for gastric band surgery and couples seeking IVF but trans campaigners say people with these conditions do not have a high suicide rate, unlike trans people waiting for treatment.
Tory MP takes HIV test for World AIDS Day 7
7:51 PM — A Conservative MP had a 15-minute HIV test at a parliamentary reception on Tuesday evening to encourage more people to take up testing. Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, has a constituency with one of the largest estimates of HIV-positive gay and bisexual men.

Men plead guilty to New York anti-gay robbery
3:53 PM — Two New York men have pleaded guilty to an anti-gay robbery which left their victim in hospital for three weeks. Daniel Rodriguez, 21, and Daniel Aleman, 27, admit robbery as a hate crime for the attack on 49-year-old Jack Price in October last year in the Queens neighbourhood.
Mercury ‘turns birds gay’ 12
3:02 PM — Consuming high doses of the chemical mercury makes some birds appear to turn gay, scientists say. It is known that mercury reduces breeding rates in white ibises but scientists in Florida and Sri Lanka were surprised to discover that the higher the dose given to male birds, the more likely they were to try to mate with another male.
Man jailed for killing stranger in gay encounter 14
2:18 PM — A man has been jailed for three years for strangling a stranger with his own scarf during a gay tryst. James Foley, 21, of Dartford, had been at a central London strip club when he slipped away and agreed to go to a garden with a 26-year-old Algerian national Fathi Bouchareb.

Lesbian couple have marriage bid rejected 20
11:05 AM — A lesbian couple were turned away from a registry office yesterday when they tried to apply to marry. Colette French and Katie Green, both 21, were turned away from Petersfield Register Office in Hampshire and refused a letter of rejection, which is usually given to couples denied a marriage.
