  1. It seems to me that the US were gathering information to bribe the people involved with at a later time should the need arise, like the Scientologists do.

There is a whiff of homophobia in this particular case as the US were clearly focusing on the private sexual lives of Alan Duncan and William Hague for some sort of political gain, they obviously saw being gay as some sort of weakness to exploit, is that really what a “friend does”?

Regardless of what I think of Conservatives, I am not sure that our national interests are best served by an unwavering alliance with such a “friend”, and I certainly do not believe that we should share all secret information with them given what they do to “friends”.

  2. The fact that alan duncan was the only minister investigated in this way, not the prime minister or chancellor of the exchequer but the bloody PENSIONS minister makes this an obvious case of homophobia. Especially this bit about Hague. The americans can be quite shameful.

I totally agree, however, the actions of WikiLeaks is even more shameful. I am sure that OUR intelligence services gather info on American politicians in order to brief our own politicians if these should get into positions of real power. This sort of reprting and intelligence gathering is common and universal… AND CONFIDENTIAL.

WikiLeaks should be ashamed of themselves for their reckless publishing of things they are not entitled to publish. I am sure that some of the recent and last revelations have placed lives at risk.

Its crazy, but it is bloo-y idiots like this that advance the cause of internet censorship by governments.. Yes, lets have freedom of the internet, but we have to use it responsibly.

  4. Seriously breeder boy? Do you even know what it means to live in a democracy? Go read the daily mail you mindless right wing drone, or better yet move to china. I’m sure being you really quite enjoy being lied to on a daily basis by governments so china would suit you well.

  5. Nuriboy, I agree. It’s fascinating for us to find out WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON.

  6. Well done Wikileaks – democracy lives.

America is the true empire of evil.

  7. Its a bit rich when the duplicitous Americans who pride themselves on free speech and protection of hate speech cry wolf when someone exposes their hypocrisy and bigotry using someone’s sexual orientation to spread the dirt in the interests of their own political ambitions. Friends just don’t do that to one another. Its underhanded and morally wrong. I hope Sweden doesn’t extradite Julian Assange for exposing the liars and the hypocrites.

  8. Duncan is an out gay politician, and has been for some time. I suspect that the information the Americans have on him is more to do with affiliation to either unlawful activities or, most likely, affiliation with some extreme right wing party or organisation. Duncan is an extremist creep.

For christs sake joe can we have some balance here?

There have been persistent rumours about \special relationships’ between Duncan and Hague no doubt fuelled by the same Labour Party Homophobia that singled out George Osbourne for attack in the election Campaign but you, oh you, decide that it had nothing to do with this but we because he was An Evil Tory.

You and your kind are a disgrace to the Queer Community.

  10. This anti americanism is bit of a joke. I know it’s a politically correct stance but which country would you prefer to be a super power? China? Saudi Arabia? Any African or middle Eastern country ?and many others we could all list whose record on LGBT rights are murderous.

  11. 3 cheers for Wikileaks. I think it is appalling that so-called democratic governments are engaging in illegal, and secret activities. If they engage in activities that the electorat are not informed about, then that information should be released.

  12. Ray, America’s record on LGBT rights isn’t exactly stellar, 45 states with no semblance of equality, no Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repealed, no Employment Non-Discrimination Act passed, gay Americans can’t even bring in their foreigh partners. It has nothing to be proud of on LGBT rights, super power or not. One of the worst foot draggers on equality.

  13. Robert,
I agree to a large extent but it’s all relative isn’t it? The UKs record is nothing to write home about. Well within the memory of many people alive today you could be jailed and publicly reviled for one private gay encounter with a consenting adult,

‘Well within the memory of many people alive today you could be jailed and publicly reviled for one private gay encounter with a consenting adult’

Yes but now we do have a surprising amount of Equality – largly through Europe pushing recent Goverments into such things but progress is progress.

  15. theotherone thinks —- “You and your kind are a disgrace to the Queer Community.”

and who the fvck are you? The official spokeman/woman/queer for gay men?

  16. Ray, I’m not disputing our shameful past in the treatment of gay people, but we’ve moved way ahead more than America has. It too criminalised homosexuality up until the early 70s. This is the 21st century, its done precious little for its gay people, hardly a progressive society. In fact its regressing if anything.

  17. «his anti americanism is bit of a joke. I know it’s a politically correct stance but which country would you prefer to be a super power? China? Saudi Arabia? Any African or middle Eastern country ?»
    Erm, the EU?

  18. I wonder if they managed to get something that wasn’t alreayd well known … Didn’t we all already know about the Hague connection..

  19. Cheers Ray! Indeed! Whil we are bashing America, who was it that burned down our White House some time ago… Well.

  20. theotherone 29 Nov 2010, 11:25pm

‘and who the fvck are you? The official spokeman/woman/queer for gay men?’

Well I’m obviously less rude than you but then that wouldn’t be hard.

Oh and I said ‘the Queer Community’ since when was that just Gay Men?

  21. ….Guy Burgess all over again….Well done Wikileaks!

  22. James 1234567890 30 Nov 2010, 1:10pm

theotherone – so you think calling someone ‘a disgrace to the queer community’ is not ‘rude’.

Get over yourself. You speak for yourself, not the ‘queer community’, whatever that is?

  23. Breederboy 30 Nov 2010, 1:30pm

Yes, seriously. No thanks though, I do not read the daily mail and I am certainly NOT right wing! I do not live in the same fantasy world as you seem to though.

In your ideal fantasy utopia, do you honestly imagine that you DO KNOW what is going on? Dream on.

Just as you, me, and everyone else has ´secrets´ and things that are better left un-broadcast, so do countries. Things are often done and said in diplomatic circles, usually for the greater good of the country involved, that are never meant to see the light of day.

I repeat again, WikiLeaks will inevitably do harm and cost lives by their actions.

‘Get over yourself. You speak for yourself, not the ‘queer community’, whatever that is?’

Well it definitely isn’t a real thing to you anyway as you seem to think that the only group that matters are Gay Men.

A Discrace? Well someone who responds to a story about Homophobia with Party Political Grandstanding is a disgrace in my language.
