    Figures show decrease in US anti-gay crime 2

    Reports of hate crime are decreasing, the figures said

    5:40 PM — FBI figures for 2009 show that reports of anti-gay hate crimes in the US have decreased. However, a recent study claims that gays are more likely to be victims of violent hate crime than any other minority group.

    5:38 PM — Fox News has refused to broadcast an advert which calls for the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The ad, by the pro-repeal Palm Center, features Canadian and Australian military leaders saying that lifting their countries' bans on out gay soldiers were a "non-event" and did not harm the military.

    4:04 PM — The Polari First Book Prize is seeking submissions for its third contest. The award is open to any first book which "explores the queer experience" and has been published in the UK within twelve months of the February 1st 2011 closing date.

    3:39 PM — A lesbian flight nurse sacked under Don't Ask, Don't Tell is to re-join the Air Force but the Obama administration has filed an appeal against the decision. Major Margaret Witt was sacked in 2007 after 19 years of service in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves when her affair with a woman came to light.

    3:22 PM — A trans woman in Houston, Texas, has been arrested after using a female toilet in a library. Tyjanae Moore was arrested by police last Wednesday for "knowingly entering a restroom of the opposite sex" but trans groups say her arrest was unlawful.

    1:54 PM — Middle-aged gay men who drink in the Charing Cross area of London have been advised to stay on their guard after a spate of drug-assisted robberies. Lambeth Police say there have been a number of incidents in which older men have been approached by a young man in a Charing Cross bar and subsequently robbed.
