Sometimes puppets can just be very good friends. I never thought I’d say those words. Just like with people though. I think it’s important to remind kids that friendships can be purely friendships.

I remember a few years ago, the reaction from the Sesame Street producers was to the effect of “…they’re felt puppets. They don’t even have legs.” Which was in response to the Joseph Chambers thing (or something similar). People can see sex in too many places. Anyway, I agree with Jim that it’s important to show that friendships don’t have to be sexy.
Honestly, it looks like Bert is Ernie’s uncle or caretaker. They have a tremendous mental age gap.
But yeah, I’d like to see a gay character on Sesame Street.

HOW can a puppet be gay? First of all it is an inanimate object. Secondly the bottom half of the puppet is usually missing (no genitalia). Thirdly, WHO cares?!! lol
I remember the religious right making a big deal over the British children’s show “Teletubbies”. Remember that “outrage”? Although in the case of the Teletubbies at least there’s a real person inside the costume! haha. *rolls eyes*

I loved this as a child – La Rue Sésame. I always knew these characters as “Ernest et Bart”.
And the others – Le Gros Oiseau (Big Bird) and “Kermit la grenouille”.
