  1. Pink News: Mr Harrington added that his son had come out in high school and suffered bullying and harassment over his sexual orientation. He said that the student had feared for his safety at times.

Ben Summerskill: I can certainly say on the issue of harassment we are not convinced that there is a need for protection in this area.

  2. “…opponents used Biblical language to justify their opposition.”

So would that have been like Greek, Hebrew or Latin perhaps?

  3. Perhaps it was Aramaic?

  4. How much more proof do we need that religion is causing irreparable harm to vulnerable people? :/ Its a shame that these gay youth are taking their own lives, that is no way to solve or fight this problem. This bigotry and violence needs to be dealt with by a competent non-bias government.

  5. Ignorant, deluded adults bully young man. Pathetic and disgusting. I bet all the opponents quoting their biblical language felt SO self-righteous, even though they probably ddin’t understand a word of the hate they were parrotting.

Where are the sensible, REAL Christians in the US and why don’t they come out and oppose this hatred and the mis-interpretations on which it’s based?

I feel so sorry for Zach having to grow up in such an environment.

Parts of America seem to be committing gay genocide by suicide! Why bother to go to the effort of actually killing queers if you can make them do it themselves (also no blood on hands when you reach the big white throne!)

For the world’s superpower, the US is certainly socially primitive and backward.

How is it that relgious people can show hate and discrimination, then say ‘well their Bible says so…blah blah’ like thats an acceptable attitude? They are nothing but hypocrites.

How is this kind of hateful attitude ‘acceptable’ when teaching children? Do they not see the damage they do? Or do they simply not care? Not care that children are killing themselves because of them. Then preach they are about love. What crap. Every religious person that supports such attitudes are nothing short of being murderers. Nothing changes. At least they’ll turn to their Texts to say there hateful actions are fine.

Once again, How is religion helping humanity progress?

Religion and religious attitudes should be particularly banned from all schools. Children should be brought up to be able to accept one another but more importantly deserve the respect to be themselves. To the point where it doesn’t matter what gender, race, sexuality you are, you just are.

  8. Oh My Science!… Oklahoma-Arkansas, the radio stations are full of shouting, sobbing and threatening blood & thunder, fascist rally style “Christian” preachers…totally abhorrent.

  9. I find this all a bit pathetic. The guy tops himself because somebody didn’t agree with his standpoint in a meeting?

There’s either something much deeper going on here that we don’t know about, or else the bloke should have really tried to get a life instead of ending one.

  10. Spanner – show some damned compassion and empathy

    RIP

How dare you! Not one of us here have any idea what that meeting was like. We don’t know if he was threatened or whether there was a background there. Have some bloody respect – people don’t just top themselves because someone disagrees with them.

The point is he went to a meeting because he cared about LGBT History Month and he tried to stand up for what was right in his eyes. I doubt many of us would have had that much interest or even the courage to that.

Religion is a disease. It infects minds and hearts and keeps humanity chained. Think of how far we would excel if we didn’t have religion holding us back.

  12. It’s very difficult for even the strongest person to survive growing up gay and isolated in a hostile, hateful community packed with anti-gay religious fundamentalist retards.
For someone perhaps without the strength, resources or backup to get out of there as quickly as possible then desperation can lead to tragedy… as it did in this case.

  13. “It’s very difficult for even the strongest person to survive growing up gay and isolated in a hostile, hateful community packed with anti-gay religious fundamentalist retards”

    Absolutely.

  14. not just cmmunity – a world where all you see is the homophobia is hellish

  15. “The guy tops himself because somebody didn’t agree with his standpoint in a meeting?”

His standpoint that his life should be respected and treated as an equal human being?

    Are you a Christian, Spanner?

  16. No spanner is just a lunatic right wing racist daily mailesque troll. And apparently gay too. Seen his sickening posts many times.

  17. Thats a new low for you spanner. Vile.

I just hope that these horrible suicides help homophobic bigots realise how disgusting they are as human beings, so they haven’t died for nothing.

  18. I read the sun and the daily mail and am constantly disgusted by the comments on their sites.

It’s exactly because of people like Zack that others have the courage to come out, and their the same people fighting for gay rights.
Spanner, you are a disgrace and have no respect for the dead.

  19. spanner you mum must be a right filthy Cnut to
have raised you to turn out like that I hope she had her womb out
