Gay Irish hurler Donal Og Cusack ‘courted for a political career’
Donal Og Cusack, the out gay Irish hurler, is rumoured to be considering a move to politics.
The sportsman has been courted by two parties, Sinn Fein and the Labour Party, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
Cusack has not commented but sources said he had been informally “sounded out” by at least two political parties about standing in the general election.
He is the only major sportsman in Ireland to have come out and made the declaration in his autobiography last year.
Cusack said he been overwhelmed with the support he received from his teammates since making the decision to come out.
But he admitted his mother would not longer watch his games because she found the anti-gay slurs levelled at him hurtful.
