Actually, I believe the Quakers in the UK are prepared to marry us but the problem is our government. The Tories don’t support marriage equality and believe that separate is equal in tandem with Summerskill’s statement. Its not going to change until they do, but I don’t see that happening any time soon. Both of them need to be replaced with people who do and they should stop appointing bigoted peers and clerics to the House of Lords who oppose us and certainly no life terms, the prerogative of the prime minister.
It’s all very nice and well that some churches support equality.
However it is only civil marriage equality that grants any legal rights.
Luckily DC has civil marriage equality already, so this church’s decision is a nice little extra for those gay people who believe in ‘god’.
This poor church has completely lost its way!
Yes, but the upper levels are very much opposed to marriage equality. In the USA, the Methodists are the most conservative of the middle of the road christian churches. Many of their ministers are light years ahead of the governing body of the church.
At least , you don’t see the hate filled campaigns and meddling in politics by the Methodists, compared to the RATZI Pope’s church, and the fundamentalist christians, whose only difference to the Islamics re gay people is the brand name of the religion.
