  1. Will Timothy be there as well?….I guess they must both be back from NZ now.

  2. This is the key event where tories need to galvinise their support for marriage equality. If that doesn’t happen then the event will have been a failure.

  3. Martin Lawrence 30 Sep 2010, 3:10pm

Just my thoughts, Dean. Nice to have a fellow bitch online! xxx

  4. He gives me the creeps, always has.

  5. HelenWilson 30 Sep 2010, 3:41pm

Held outside the conference again I see….Cant be having us queers upsetting the evangelicals I guess…..I guess some Tories are queer but not around the blue rinses and homophobes inside the conference.

  6. Ian Bower (Lincoln) 30 Sep 2010, 3:42pm

    Dean and Martin
The only way you’re going to avoid getting older is to die now.
Oh – and thanks for perpetuating the ‘It’s only good to be gay if you’re young myth’.

  7. Why not choose a gay tory or a gay celebrity?

  8. Perhaps they have (titter).

  9. Section/Clause 28. I will never forget. I will never forgive.

  10. Has mAdam Rickett come out of the closet then?

He was in a ‘Fight testicular cancer’ campaign some months ago.

He looked haggard and ruined. he’s done way too many sunbeds and looks 10 years older than he is.

He looked like a crocodile skin handbag.

  11. “He looked like a crocodile skin handbag.”

Oh god no! Please don’t tell me he got his scrotum out. I’m in bed ill and you’re making me feel worse. He’s repulsive.

  12. “Rickitt, a gay pin-up”

It’s not 1998 any more. Now he is merely a sun-damaged, prematurely aging, possible closet-case Tory.

And no – he did not get his scrotum out. Although the rest of the skin on his body (which WAS on display) did have a scrotum like, wrinkled texture.

  13. Right, that’s it, I’m off to Dignitas.

  14. Well I hope Ben Summerskill doesn’t spoil it all for you and do a surprise visit , he sure would for us!…. what’s the schedule for his fringe meeting at the conf? Any more gem one liners at this conf?

    >Held outside the conference again I see….Cant be having us queers upsetting the evangelicals I guess…..I guess some Tories are queer but not around the blue rinses and homophobes inside the conference.

It’s so that people without a conference pass can attend.

  16. I think the shallowness in a lot of comments on here putting the guy down is mean, bitchy and playing to stereotype.
Get over yourselves and and get off the gus back and be more concerned with what this might do for our rights in the goby

  17. He’s a failed would be politician, he was a very average soap actor, he’s a rotten singer and a wrinkled model. He’s also very arrogant.
The perfect guest for a Tory night out with a load of Quentin Crisp lookalikes and stuck up Mummy’s boys.

  18. “the shallowness in a lot of comments on here putting the guy down is mean, bitchy and playing to stereotype.”

Well the guy has made his living from shallowness. To disguise the fact that he couldn’t sing or act, he took his clothes off at every available opportunity.

That’s what he is famous for, and that’s how he is judged.

If he becomes an LGBT advocate, then I’ll ignore his withered sun-damaged appearance.

Has mAdam come out of the closet? Or is he straight?

  19. I don’t know if Mr Rickitt is gay or not, or in fact anything about him personally, but as a survivor of testicular cancer I commend him for this effort to raise awareness of this particular cancer. If his participation in this campaign results in saving someones life then he has done a good thing, and good for him for ‘having the balls’ to do it in the first place.

    Strange how people can’t forget/forgive Section/Clause 28 but clearly forgotten/forgiven Labour’s Amendmant 70!

Nothing two-faced about that is there?!

I think this article shows the positive happening within the Conservative Party Here in 2010. It shows that it has opened up and the more openly gay MP’s standing. Surely that has to be a good thing. Things won’t change otherwise.

  21. Jock – I’d rather have a gay-friendly straight MP than a gay MP who is too cowardly to stand up for LGBT people.

yesterday we had the horrific spectacle of Nick Herbert speaking to the self-hating Uncle Toms of the Log Cabin Republicans.

Today we have the news that a faded soap star is appearing at an LGBTory event.

What are the Tories actually DOING to advance LGBT rights.

What are the openly gay Tory MP’s doing to advance marriage equality?

Is that disgusting bigot Philippa Stroud still lurking in the background of the Tory Party?

  22. Sister Mary Clarance 1 Oct 2010, 6:24pm

“That’s what he is famous for, and that’s how he is judged. ”

…. and society is going to remember YOU for what exactly Marcus?

    Regarding you other point ….

What are the Tories actually DOING to advance LGBT rights

“Boris Johnson ‘backs calls for gay marriage'”

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, said: “I welcome the ruling of the Supreme Court, which vindicates the position of the coalition Government. We have already promised to stop the removal of asylum-seekers who have had to leave particular countries because their sexual orientation or gender identification puts them at proven risk of imprisonment, torture or execution. I do not believe it is acceptable to send people home and expect them to hide their sexuality to avoid persecution.”

That would be two things I guess.

  23. @ Mary – “…. and society is going to remember YOU for what exactly Marcus?” LMFAO. So you think society is going to remember Adam Rickitt. LOL. For what, being on coronation street?

    regarding your other point………

And then you go on to try and make out that the tories are advancing gay rights, quoting an MP whose record on gay rights votes is no better than the worst homophobe you could find.

Come back and try and convert people to the tory party when they actually do something for LGBT equality.

  24. Sister Mary Clarance 3 Oct 2010, 5:15pm

Leo, the Tory’s can smell a vote just as much as Labour can. They might have been slower off the mark, but they need the gay vote as much as Labour did.

Labour introduced EU policy, nothing more. It takes two minutes to research that fact so don’t get all sanctimonious will me about the evils of Tory over benevolent Labour.

As for Adam Rickitt, if Marie Curie or Bob Geldof want to have a go about how little he has done to further mankind, then fair enough, but why does every bitter nobody on here think they can take cheap shots at people in the public eye when they have don’t nothing with their own lives and benefited no one else?

  25. Staircase2 18 Nov 2011, 6:09pm

I wouldnt support the Torys if they paid me…

While its great that even the Torys now have visibility sewn into their party for LGBT people, their general reactionary stance on everything (and historically this was aimed at LGBTs) still makes me sick.

That Theresa Bloody May and Eric Bloody Pickles should be attending this Gay Ball just highlights what bloody hypocrites the pair are – even if it also simultaneously highlights just how far the Torys have come in recent years.

Despite this the Torys still have miles to go in their approach towards the rest of non-conservative humanity. When I see Theresa May extending her heart and brain to the issue of immigration or crime and see Eric Pickles extend his to the issue of Gypsies and Travellers, THEN I’ll believe they’re really making strides towards grown-up politics…
