  1. The photo with the article shows the Commonwealth Parliament building in Canberra, not the New South Wales Parliament building in Sydney.

  2. Unlike marriage, the individual States legislate in regard to same-sex adoption! This is to do with the state of New South Wales not Australia as a nation. Wrong parliament house as well- that is a photo of the Australian Parliament in Canberra.

    It passed the “ping-pong” stage (agreeing to each others 2 amendments in both houses).

    Now the Adoption Amendment (Same Sex Couples) Bill 2010 (No 2) passed both houses of parliament, it is now awaiting assent. She [the Governor] will sign it into law, this is the last piece of discrimination in NSW law – that has been finally abolished!!!!!

    Finally the Government has implemented the 1997 NSW Law Reform Commission recommendation to allow same sex couples to adopt children!!!!!
