Following the Wallabies’ win over South Africa on Saturday, Ms Rice tweeted: ”Suck on that faggots!”
The posting was criticised by gay actor and former Australian rugby star Ian Roberts, who called her a “complete idiot”.
“She is an idiot … and anyone who continues to endorse her as an athlete is an idiot as well,” he told The Herald Sun.
“I say that with a very sad tone in my voice. What a fool.”
Ms Rice who is rumoured to be dating dating Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper is a heavy user of Twitter, her posts described by some as showing she suffers from “Twitter diarrhoea”. She has issued a statement saying:”I did not mean to cause offence and I apologise. I have deleted it from the site.”
