Good move but the get-out clause for religion is scandalous. And giving ‘birth parents’ the right to deny their child to an adoptive gay couple is a potential ethical absurdity – if they were fit or able to care for the child in the first place they would not be placing it for adoption and their having the power to say who IS fit to care for it might well be a hypocritical nonsense.
