Mehlman was actively involved in making sure that LGBT people were denied marriage equality in particular states, and was instrumental in persuading some states to alter their constitutions to specifically deny marriage equality.

The damage he has done to the LGBT community is very real and very considerable.

The fact that he is taking part in a fundraiser for marriage equality is all very well. But the reason funds need to be raised is to fight the vile homophopbia he initiated and promoted.

I would recommend that he donate every single penny he has earned (and it’s in the millions) from his homophobia to the equality cause.

That would still be too little, too late but it’s more than his current pathetic stance which seems to be ‘Oh, I support you now, please forget my disgustingly harmful previous behaviou’.

F**k off ‘Confused’ – you work for the homophobic Stonewall organisation.

[Check out the comments piece on the Pink News report which shows that 98% of the LGBT population support marriage equality, and ‘Confused’ starting posting on here pretending that Civil partnership apartheid was adequate for LGBT people, while not identifying himself as a Stonewall employee – Pink News correctly pointed out that confused was a Stonewall employee from his IP address. Meanwhile Stonewall themselves refuse to give a statement outlining their position on marriage equality)

Please explain why your homophobic organisation is not supporting marriage equality ‘Confused’?

Why is Stonewall so homophobic? Are they more worried about their salaries than the LGBT community? Have their corporate donors instructed them to hinder LGBT equality?

Actually I think Stonewall is vaguely similar to Mehlman. Stonewall like Mehlman is willing to sell out its own community to remain close to those in power. Irrespective of how damaging and offensive that position is.

  4. This is a man who recently bought a Manhattan apartment to the tune of $3 million on the backs of discrimination against his own people. This is a man who along with the Log Cabiners (gay conservative men) have persistently voted for, supported and donated to the Grand Old Party (GOP) of hate and no for years, a party that doesn’t want openly gay men and women serving in the military, doesn’t want to repeal the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) or ENDA enacted (Employment Non-Discrimination Act). Its despicable that gay people could support a party that supports discrimination and demonisation of an entire group of people and to deny them basic civil and human rights. I’m all for redemption, but until Mehlman offers a genuine apology to the entire LGBT community, then he doesn’t deserve forgiveness. Are you listening, StonewallUK (our own version of the Log Cabin group)? Stop obstructing our right to full civil marriage equality, NOW.

    Confused, no 2 states:

“I’d like to comment on this but I’m worried my IP addresss will be published by PinkNews”

Confused is a Stonewall employee (see the comments section on the ’98% of LGBT people support marriage equality’ story for proof ot this).

Confused – please explain why your homophobic employer Stonewall supports the Civil Partnership Apartheid regime in the face of such overwhelming support for marriage equality by the LGBT population?

Actually the analogy between Stonewall and Mehlman is pretty fair.

Stonewall while not engaged in active homophobia like Mehlman was, are still spitting in the faces of the community they pretend to represent by granting legitimacy to civil partnership apartheid in their dealings with government.

Their utter lack of transparency in how they decide their policy agenda gives credibility to the idea that their corporate donors decide their agenda on their behalf, and that their claim to represent the LGB population is a mere pretence.

This is in spite of the fact that

…This is in spite of the fact that the overwhelming majority of the LGBT population in Britain want FULL marriage equality.

I really cannot understand why Stonewall point blank refuse to engage with the LGBT population on this issue (although seemingly they are happy to allow 1 of their more stupid employees to post anonymously on Pink News using their office equipment).

Our enemy is still our enemy even if he’s one of us. We can revise that stance once he’s made up for all his past misdeeds. Given the gravity of his crimes against LGBT people, that might take quite some time.

If anyone thinks I’m being too harsh, well, if he was actually making a serious attempt to atone, I wouldn’t be saying this. The man has put in years of work to make millions from the suffering of his fellow LGBTs. And now that he’s not getting a cent for helping us, all he can muster is the odd token speech. He is the epitome of self-serving greed. A truly horrible man.

This man thus-far is without Honor, shameful!!!!
However had he been out as gay, he would not be such a public figure today.
Let us use this to our advantage, people may be drawn to ponder this lastest out,
as “Wow if this guy is gay, many more higher-ups must be hiding in plain sight”.
OR NOT, POINT IS ,Use him to our advantage.

  12. Steve Schmidt, Dick Cheney, Laura Bush and now Ken Mehlman… Trash the gays, rise to power, make an awful lot of money, retire and then only speak for LGBT rights. How typically Republican
