An arson attack on portable toilets at Brighton Pride caused £30,000 worth of damage.

The fire was started at the block of toilets at the north side of the park near Preston Park Avenue at around 10pm on Saturday August 7th.

Police say the fire was started deliberately and are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Katy Hartley said: “Thousands took part in the Pride celebrations at Preston Park and the event took place peacefully, proving to be a great success with only a number of isolated incidents. The fire was quickly dealt with by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.

“This is a serious offence and I’m keen to speak to anyone with information, particularly to a group of around five youths aged 16-20 who were seen running from the area at the time of the fire.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1889 of 7/8 or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
