An Oxford man who shouted homophobic abuse at a gay couple and stabbed one of the men in the stomach has been jailed.

Lewis Buck, 21, of Banbury Road, Oxford, began shouting abuse at Stephen Furze and Tim Samways when they found him on his hands and knees in his garden on January 27th.

The couple wondered whether Buck had fallen over but he then began following them, shouting abuse and calling them “gay boys”.

Mr Furze, 27, protected his partner by standing in front of him and told him to run away as Buck went into his home and reappeared with a large kitchen knife.

Buck then stabbed Furze in the abdomen, piercing his liver.

The Oxford Times reports he was told by Judge Patrick Eccles he could have killed his victim, who was told by doctors he was “extremely lucky” the blade did not rupture an artery.

Buck pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

In his defence, his lawyer Claire Fraser said his baby son had recently died and he was trying to stop drinking.

He was jailed for six years and told he could expect to serve at least half of his sentence.
