Lady Gaga has been nominated for 13 MTV award nominations – the highest number for any artist yet.

The gay-friendly singer was shortlisted twice for video of the year for singles Telephone and Bad Romance.

Telephone, which featured Beyonce, was also shortlisted for the best collaboration award.

In a statement referring to her fans, Gaga said: “I’m so honoured for all the little monsters and self-possessed freaks of the universe.

“God put me on Earth for three reasons – to make loud music, gay videos and make a damn ruckus.”

She added: “Ironically, I’m even more proud that it’s an unlucky number, 13. ”

She faces competition in the video of the year category from Eminem, for Not Afraid, and Florence and the Machine, for Dog Days Are Over.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 12th.
