Police have been visiting Clapham Common after dark to warn gay men meeting for sex that they may be attacked or robbed.

There have been increased reports of robberies and assaults on gay cruisers in the area, This is Local London reports.

One evening last week, police visited the area and stopped 26 men to offer them safety advice and warn that cruising can be dangerous.

The operation was carried out with Wandsworth LGBT Forum, which produced leaflets with safety advice and helplines.

Sergeant Damon Goodman-Anders said: “I believe the operation was a success. Feedback from the males stopped was very positive and they seemed pleased that the police in Wandsworth are not ignoring the problem and are pro-actively trying to target it.”
