Lindsay Lohan was released from jail in the early hours of this morning and is expected to begin a 90-day rehabilitation programme.

The bisexual actress served just 13 days of her 90-day sentence for violating a 2007 probation for a drink-driving offence.

She was released from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, at 1.35am local time for good behaviour and due to overcrowding at the prison.

She somehow managed to avoid the dozens of paparazzi photographers waiting outside the jail.

Lohan, 24, is now expected to serve 90 days in a rehabilitation clinic as part of her sentence.

According to US gossip website TMZ, she is heading to the UCLA Medical Centre, which specialises in psychological and addiction problems.

She was jailed after a Beverly Hills judge grew frustrated at her absences from court-ordered alcohol abuse classes.
