Gay groups in the US are calling on Lady Gaga to cancel a gig in Phoenix, Arizona, in protest at new immigration laws.

Gaga, who is bisexual and a gay rights supporter, is due to play a concert in the city on Saturday.

An online petition says: “Please be a lady for our community.

“Communities have called for a boycott of the state to make it happen. As an icon and beloved artist, please join us in boycotting Arizona and turn your trip into an opportunity to meet your little monsters in the Migrant LGBTQ.munity so that you can speak out against the hateful laws and be a champion for this human rights cause.”

The new law, SB 1070, allows police to stop individuals they have a “reasonable suspicion” of being illegal immigrants. Those who cannot produce documents may be arrested.

However, opponents say it will encourage racial profiling, leading to people being stopped by police on the basis of their skin colour.

A number of musicians including Kanye West and Rage Against The Machine have already promised not to perform in Arizona until the bill has been amended.
