  1. Congratulations – Hugely deserved. Peter, you have my greatest respect.

  2. Congratulations, Peter, the first of many awards. But I am not sure why you would not accept a Royal peerage or something like that. I would expect you to get something like.

Congratulations, Peter. And despite your self-effacing words, thoroughly well deserved.

My thanks and deepest respect for all you have done and stand for.

  4. Definitely very well-deserved. Congratulations Peter!

Excellent news! This had brought a smile to my face and made my day.

  8. Well done and well deserved, Peter.
This is better than an invitation to a No. 10 bloody garden party, isn’t it!
Don’t be bashful about this – you jolly well deserve it. Heartiest congratulations.

  9. SO richly deserved – CONGRATULATIONS, Doctor Peter!!! :-)

  10. Tomorrow on Pink News: Peter Tatchell sneezes.

  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Letters explains that a D.Litt. is awarded “on the basis of a long record of research and publication … to candidates whose record of published work and research shows conspicuous ability and originality and constitutes a distinguished and sustained achievement”. Other “notable recipients” listed by Wikipedia include Mark Twain, J.R.R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowling … and [somewhat incongruously] Gordon Brown!

  12. Can’t wait to see “Dr Peter Tatchell” on the rolling credits of the Pope documentary.

    Congratulations!

Peter Tatchell entirely deserves this award. And it would be great to see him appointed to the Lords (until we have a properly elected 2nd chamber).

However, as a matter of protocol, recipients of honorary doctorates are not addressed as “Dr.”. In fact, outside academia, it’s kind of tacky for even Ph.Ds to use the title.

We are not Austrians after all!

  14. Congratulations . . . Well deserved for 40 years of tenacity, conscious raising, and sheer bloody mindedness to the cause of Gay rights.

  15. BenB and Spanner – shut the fukc up you stupid bitter queens.

Congrats to Peter Tatchell. He’s an amazing man who deserves much more than an honorary degree.

    About time too!

  17. Many congratulations Peter on a well deserved honour. Hot on the heels of our first Green MP in Brighton perhaps this shows Sussex and Brighton in a caring light.

  18. Sussex University is NOT one of the “jumped-up polytechnics”!

Sussex University is a very fine and progressive university.

    Well done, Peter!

He deserves it (and then some). He’s put in such tremendous work and done so much good for LGBTs both in this country and around the world. :)

  20. He is a good man.

Congradulations you have always been the best person to stand up for human rights and proper justice – plus your Australian born!!!!!!!
