Graham Norton will take over the BBC1 Friday night flagship slot left empty by Jonathan Ross, sources say.

Ross filmed his last show for the corporation yesterday and pictures released showed him apparently wrestling with guest David Beckham.

It was announced recently that Norton would take over his Saturday Radio 2 show.

Filling the Friday night primetime slot will make him the BBC’s star presenter.

A source told The Sun: “Yes, Graham will be the face of Friday nights from October. He’s over the moon.

“The show won’t be called Friday Night With [Graham Norton]. It will be very similar to The Graham Norton Show on Monday nights, but moving it to a plum spot on Fridays will see him pull in more A-list names.”

Ross announced in January he would be leaving the BBC after 13 years.

He is to move to ITV with a new talk show airing in October 2011.
