As someone who labels themselves a Dr. I would have thought you would understand that any potential genetic problems are at a higher risk and not absolutes and that even if a child was born with a genetically induced problem it still would not be a “mutated freak show”.
It’s shocking that such mentally backward people can reach such high office. The world seems to make ways for such uneducated morons to take charge. Lets hope this will also become a thing of the past. These people have nothing to do with believing in civil rights they clearly want to do anything to stop humanity progressing in anyway. Close relatives that marry may have a common ancestor who had one mutation of the recessive disease, but did not get any disease because they did not have the second mutation. Changes are higher than both of these close relatively may have the same mutation, and thus be “genetic carriers” for the recessive disease. If they produce children, these children are much more likely to actually have the full symptomatic version of the recessive disease.

All you people should read the article, instead of just the headline. “….not to put it in the exact same category….” Obviously not saying gays and lesbians commit incest. Also, since gay marriage aka ‘civil union’ is a big issue, she thought it was “so important it should be decided by the people”. So in conclusion, read the article before you respond so angrily. If you feel so passionately about the issue, you should contribute to the argument instead of just name calling.
I don’t care how this stupid debate ends up, just decide it once and for all. In my opinion, consensual homosexuality, incest and polygamy between consenting adults are all in the same group. It’s all a matter of “morality.” The question we need to be asking are: Should we be legislating morality? Who decides what is moral? Can morality change over time? And in this specific instance, Can we legislate restrictions on marriage between any grouping on consenting adults or not?
Once again I say: There is no cure for stupidity.
