seems you are giving them more coverage than the million celebrating gay liberation are getting on the major news stations on tv , total blackout :(

  2. Ignacio_N 3 Jul 2010, 3:26pm

Why do Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow feel the compulsion as a gay male couple to christen their children with all this sh!t going on? They’re beyond contradictory.

  3. “Yeah, but you know that doesn’t apply any more.” That has got to be one of my favourite quotes from a anti-gay Christian, it just elegantly shows their hypocrisy.

  4. Jock S. Trap 3 Jul 2010, 3:43pm

Just more proof that these religions are nothing more than out-of-date hypocrites!!

  5. Don Harrison 3 Jul 2010, 3:58pm

1.Jesus says nothing about same-sex behaviour.

2.The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.

  6. I see it’s mostly old people protesting, seeing as Christianity will eventually die here and their ignorance with it.

  7. I can smell the dusty old hymn books from here.

  8. Should have asked him about the sin of usury i.e. lending money at interest = the main basis of our modern economy. If he’s got a bank account that gives interest or a building society account then he’s a sinner. But they choose to ignore that, don’t they?

What a bunch of lousy bigoted hypocrites!

  9. Lady Estelle Darcy 3 Jul 2010, 5:49pm

I say SHOOT THEM in the head – simples!

  10. Great questions and great quotes, Jessica. You should have been doing it on camera for one of the TV news channels.

  11. I was in the parade (the Stonewall bit) and they were a tiny blip in what was otherwise a great day with a big and enthusiastically supportive crowd. We were in such a party mood that the devil himself could not have put a dampener on things.

  12. Terence Weldon 3 Jul 2010, 6:51pm

The handful of protestors were vastly outnumbered by the marchers proudly proclaiming their own Christian faith, and by the numerous sections of the crowd who loudly cheered my own group of gay Catholics led by a Catholic priest, complete with clerical collar.

Your correspondent who replied that the dietary laws were just “local” restrictions for Jews is entirely correct – but precisely the same observation applies to the Levitical proscription of homosexuality. The “abominationvery ” used in the King James version and later translations gives a very poor sense of the Hebrew, which is more appropriately translated as a “foreign taboo”, and was understood by the Israelites as referring to temple prostitution, or to (male)incest. It most certainly had nothing to do with loving relationships, and like the rest of the Jewish purity laws, was no more binding on early Christians that cirmcumcision.

(See The “Abominations” of the King James Bible at “Queering the Church

  13. One Million of us! One dozen of them! Their the minority now!

  14. Ammend your ways guys and if you are lucky you will get to spend eternity with the people in the photo, or people like them.

  15. Don Harrison 3 Jul 2010, 8:38pm

Sodom and Gomorrah are described as overfed, unconcerned non justice minded people who tried to potentially and literally rape their guests, in direct opposition to the laws of hospitality and the laws of the Old Testament. There is nothing in the passage pertinent to a judgement about the morality of consensual homosexual intercourse..

In Leviticus – If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”. In the Twenty first century does that still apply?

In Romans the criticism of penetrative sex between men does not apply to straight, bisexual and gay men today because it applied only to the Greek-Roman culture of Paul’s time. Although Paul criticises penetrative sex between men, he does not actually say don’t do it..

  16. Dr Boycock 3 Jul 2010, 9:11pm

Indeed. What incredible nonsense from the god-squad again. Now it is THEY who are trying to pick and choose which parts of the bible they choose to believe and follow.

Although I would disagree with them, I can respect someone who actually believes in the bible 100%, word for word. Misguided idiots they may be, but at least they are sticking to their own book and beliefs. But THESE idiots? They are seeking to ´cherry-pick´ from the bible to justify their ignorance and hate… pure and simple. Listen dears, if YOU can cherry pick that from the bible which is clearly ´local laws´ and is no longer relevant to todays society…

    Then so can WE!

  17. theotherone 3 Jul 2010, 9:17pm

I say SHOOT THEM in the head – simples!
    )

But my dear Lady Estelle Darcy – they’re heads are empty.

  18. Hazel Russman 3 Jul 2010, 9:46pm

Typical! 12 Christians protest and you headline it. There were dozens of Christians on the march, not just the Catholic contingent but Evangelicals too, singing lustily about the love of Jesus and having a whale of a time. I should know – I was one of them. But did you notice us? No.

  19. Oops, Pink News, u r giving this tiny minority a platform. Have u got an x journo from the Daily Mail? Sort yourselves out!! As John said 1mill of us, 12 of them. In the spirit of fairness I’m expecting a heck alot of great good news stories about the day. We get annoyed when the press give some mad minority a voice, you’ve just done exactly the same!!!!

  20. The word cretin means christian.

  21. i thoroughly enjoyed shoving the ‘God Delusion’ (R. Dawkins) and ‘The Age of Reason’ (T. Paine) in front of them when i marched past.

    xxx

  22. ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ Is that a gay bar?

They should have stood in front of them and danced out YMCA lol

  23. What really matters in the UK seems to be the divorce between your conservative party of the religious right. In poor old Aus. we have a conservative party AND a labor party who are strongly influenced by these awful people. Even our new atheist PM won’t show us any respect for fear of upsetting them.

  24. Not Really 4 Jul 2010, 2:57am

The UK still has 26 bishops in an unelected upper house of government. And yes, contrary to popular belief, the House of Lords can amend fine details of policy.

  25. ‘When asked whether he ate shellfish and wore mixed fibres, which are also prohibited in the Bible, he said: “Yeah, but you know that doesn’t apply any more.

“Those were local, dietary laws, not moral laws.”‘

I am sorry but that is blantant picking and choosing, if one doesnt apply anymore, then none apply anymore. I smell a classic closet case

  26. It was my very first pride yesterday and luckily I didn’t see them but I sadly did come across people at Pride who didn’t hesitate to tell me my choice of sexuality was wrong and that they knew better.

But being bi I guess that’s something I will have to get used to. Funny how my straight friends understand the concept perfectly, but the gay strangers I came across think I’m “just going through a phase”.

  27. Sorry you went through that J.

Sadly, while it is only a handful of gay people can be the most intolerant, ironically it’s usually while they scream that everyone should treat Them equally at the same time!

  28. Dr Robin Guthrie 4 Jul 2010, 5:41pm

Funny how that Tory Pickles MP is stating how he will “protect” christianity.

That tends to smack in the face of all their other efforts.

Fortunately these old Tories will die particularly when you clock the size of the fat oaf, as will the Christians, and good bye to bad rubbish.

Next issue is the bloody Muslims and there dogmas.

Perhaps humanity can just get on with achieving stuff once these old religions are dead.

  29. David North 4 Jul 2010, 5:52pm

“Yeah, but you know that doesn’t apply any more.
“Those were local, dietary laws, not moral laws.”

The hypocrisy just spews from these idiots.

That bit of the book suits my personal bigotries, but that bit does not.

When oh when can we get these people locked up for the insanity that they exist in, given their danger to the public.

As a major tax payer, I’m sick of paying for all this guff.

16 Million for the pope in the UK. Who hates my very existence.

Vile pedo allower that he is.

Personally I would nuke Israel and start the end of all
    the Middle East warfare.

    Promised land my arse.

    God said so..

Jewish, Christian, Muslim etc etc etc.

    Just drop it.

We live on a wee planet at the back end of a spiral
    in our galaxy.

Stop using your bloody gods to spoil life for the rest of us.

    Just go away.

    Rant over…

  30. Patrick James 4 Jul 2010, 6:19pm

I was at the very first LGBT pride parade in Belfast. I greatly enjoyed it. I remember there were probably 50 or so LGBT people in the parade.

At the start of the parade a couple of hundred religious protestors gathered shouting very aggressive and threatening abuse. These of course were primarily from the Democratic Unionist Party at that time led by Ian Paisley. Today the DUP might be better known to the readership of these pinknews comments by being the party of Iris Robinson that nutty and nasty woman.

Some years prior to the first LGBT pride parade Northern Ireland had obtained an age of consent for gay male sex in 1983. This had been achieved by taking a case to the European Court of Human Rights. The DUP had opposed this with much aggression and of course the Conservative party had added to their cause at Westminster by opposing this legislation.

So, at the first LGBT pride parade the DUP felt very justified in their abuse of LGBT people, after all, in recent years the Conservative British Government had agreed with the DUP that there should be no age of equality for LGBT people in Northern Ireland.

At the parade I was delighted by the LGBT people who had turned up. It was very brave of them, as homophobic violent recriminations were very possible.

Today of course the UK is a changed place. After 13 years of Labour we now have a much better society. Today when the DUP abuse LGBT people at least they do not do it feeling they have the tacit support of the British Government as they did when the Conservative party was last in power.

The Conservative party decided after the 2005 election that their homophobia was losing them more votes in the UK that it was gaining votes.

However in the European Union the Conservatives function with a very different agenda.

A similar situation to the one I grew up in now exists in Poland.

I have no doubt the same monstrous abuses and discrimination take place against LGBT people in Poland today as took place in the Northern Ireland that I grew up in.

In the European Union the British Conservative Party is allied to and promoting far right wing religious extremists such as the Polish Law and Justice party.

The duality of the Conservative party must stop.

If the Conservative party has decided that LGBT people are to have equal rights in the UK then surely they must also take this view of the very vulnerable LGBT people in Poland?

  31. Peter Cotton 4 Jul 2010, 8:48pm

Sin is sin even if a million people celebrate it. It is time to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!

  32. Yes, Peter Cotton – that’s why god went to all the trouble of listing homosexuality in the Ten Commandments. Not.There’s NO bit in the Bible that condemns loving, consensual same sex relationships between adults.

Women? Black people? You can’t pick on them now so we’re just your latest obsession. By all means believe in god if it makes you feel good about yourself, but don’t use prejudice and discrimination to boost your self esteem. Most people will see right through that.

  33. Dr Boycock 4 Jul 2010, 11:35pm

“Sin is sin even if a million people celebrate it”

Says WHO dear? You? Your ´good book´? (which this thread has already shown shows enough contradictions)

“It is time to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!”

Rubbish! I´ll tell you what, YOU do what you want to do, and shut the f-ck up about what I want to do with my life, and who I choose to love… okay? Its none of your business, so keep your stupid prehistoric sky-pilot opinions to yourself. I´m sick and tired of hearing your sick sh-t.

And, thankfully, it appears that many more poeple are these days also! Get a life and read your own sick church websites.

  34. <>

Where would you lot be without someone to demonise? (And why do you do such funny, unnatural things with prepositions?)

  35. yada yada yada yada… and mrs featherstone will be probably consulting some of these people to decide if we should be treated equally…

  36. Peter Cotton – Don’t blaspheme against the flying spaghetti monster. I hear he’s the one true way!

  37. Well Mr. Cotton, ignorance is ignorance even if a million people celebrate it. It is time to repent your ignorance and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ the way he meant to be, not by being a hateful moron!

  38. john sharp 5 Jul 2010, 7:25am

    abnormal religious freaks again
    they need therapy

  39. I agree the Christian protesters from the sidelines are nothing to worry about – they give us a laugh.

What is considerably more worrying is the presence in the parade of gay catholics. Hell will freeze over before the Church of Rome moves an inch towards the recognition of gay people and it will condemn as sinners any who don’t agree to suppress their sexuality in obedience to the mediaeval sexually repressed bigotry that constitutes Catholic sexual morality. Cannot these traitors tot h gay cause, if they must be Christians, find a way of expressing their christianity that looks a bit less like rank hypocrisy?

  40. Harry writes: “What is considerably more worrying is the presence in the parade of gay catholics”.

    Quite! And we’ve the

  41. And we’ve got the second coming of the pope in a few weeks: reported to be visiting Twickenham on 17th September. Pope to visit Twickenham

    See Protest the Pope

  42. Ian Bower 5 Jul 2010, 2:59pm

    Silly people. Silly, silly people.
They really do live in a fantasy world of slective bigotry.
    Sad, sad people!

  43. Yes, the silly old bible bashers were at it even before the parade arrived. I was there just to one side with a banner protesting the pope’s visit- just to do my little bit to upstage them. The Paraders gave them short-shrift but were pretty mild mannered compared to some of the ghastly ‘” Verily, thou art sodomities, etc etc and How Dare You flaunt it” and “Thou art damned to hell so repent” and worse…etc rambling drearily from their petty mouths

  44. Peter Cotton 5 Jul 2010, 5:34pm

If there is anybody reading this who knows that their homosexual lifestyle is sin and who longs to be free from its slavery then hear this: “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). The gospel is “the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:17). Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). Take Jesus at His word!

  45. David North 5 Jul 2010, 6:35pm

    Peter Cotton.

F-OFF and spew your bile elsewhere.

  46. Peter, no one here is willing to listen to your nonsense. The day of gay people being afraid of the likes of you and your hateful religion is closing, thankfully.

Why not run along and get a good book to read, or perhaps watch something on evolution on the Discovery Channel…. it’ll do you no end of good. Maybe then you’ll see how pathetic your post is.

  47. Peter Cotton 5 Jul 2010, 8:10pm

“Why not run along and get a good book to read, or perhaps watch something on evolution on the Discovery Channel…. it’ll do you no end of good. Maybe then you’ll see how pathetic your post is.”

Actually, I am reading a good book at the moment it’s called “The Greatest Hoax on Earth”. A clear refutation of Richard Dawkin’s book the God Delusion. May I suggest you don’t try and hide behind the blanket of evolution because it has holes all over it and the more we understand the bigger they get. If you would like the book check it out here: http://creation.com/the-greatest-hoax-on-earth/main.php . It may do you good.

  48. Dr Robin Guthrie 5 Jul 2010, 8:28pm

    Dear Mr Peter Cotton.

We can all quote bible references:

    For Example:-

Murder, rape and pillage of the Midianites (Numbers 31:7-18)
    Laws of Rape (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)
Death to the Rape Victim (Deuteronomy 22:23-24)
    Sex Slaves (Exodus 21:7-11)

Understanding their original meaning after many translations and
re-interpretations and censorship over 2000 years is difficult.

Try investigating/questioning it other than quoting directly.

With regards to your continual quoting of the New Testaments bible passages with a soupcon of the Old testament thrown in.

I contend, that you sir are a fundamentalist dogmatic ignorant idiot.

You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions of which yours is in a global minority, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt and ribs.

Please inform your mother of that nugget, I’m sure you will find different.

You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God. “The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit” ( Eph 1:17 Heb 1:8 Acts 5:3.4 )

Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees!

You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering.

And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”

While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have
failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.

You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers.

You consider that to be evidence that prayer works.

And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

It appears to me having actually read your bible, “All Versions” that you sir actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history – but still call yourself a Christian.

Some of us who have actually studied the whole monstrosity, in all it’s forms, having been forcibly baptized into it from birth
actually took a choice to read and understand it.

And Mr.Cotton, your version of it is yours.

Pray read and answer these comments. If you can.

And I do not expect a barrage of quotes from YOUR version of the bible.

Only then can you be taken seriously.

  49. “blanket of evolution”?????

LOL! Are you serious? Oh, I suppose we are to believe the talking snake in the garden with the naked chick eating an “apple of doom”??? And you think evolution has “holes”in its theory? But no “holes” in the story of some naked dude with the dinosaurs roaming a pretty garden and making his girlfriend from a rib or two???

    LOL! You’re pathetic.

Why do all you religions freaks refuse to see the proof of evolution and instead chose to believe some ridiculous story about a yabbering snake with Tourette’s Syndrome? Any point you tried to make with your daft assertion of the “blanket of evolution” is lost under the reality your an uneducated fool.

And quite frankly, who listens to uneducated fools? You rarely see them presenting on BBC. Odd that.

  50. Dr Robin Guthrie 5 Jul 2010, 8:48pm

    “Blanket of Evolution”

    OK then.

When you get some sort of cellular cancer you will clearly hope for your God to assist.

    Please do hope so.

At least we will know you are dead.

Never mind, it will be a lovely funeral no doubt.

    Toodles.

One less thicko to spoil others lives with their ignorance.

Can I add the final spade full of dirt.

Get’s you out of the face of progress.

  51. “Oh, I suppose we are to believe the talking snake in the garden with the naked chick eating an “apple of doom”??? And you think evolution has “holes”in its theory? But no “holes” in the story of some naked dude with the dinosaurs roaming a pretty garden and making his girlfriend from a rib or two???”

LOL Classic line there Will, and true when you look at it! This made me laugh for ages. I’m still giggling at it hee hee

  52. “If there is anybody reading this who knows that their homosexual lifestyle is sin…”

Well, there won’t be, Peter – because it isn’t a sin. Neither are women inferior to men (your Bible says that); nor should rude children be put to death (your Bible says that); nor was Job right to offer his daughter up to be raped (your Bible says he was).

    What’s your obsession with homosexuality?

  53. Peter Cotton 5 Jul 2010, 9:35pm

Dr Guthrie, considering you don’t know me and have never met me you claim to know an awful lot about me as shown by your dogmatic assertions (which incidentally, are most inaccurate). I do hope this isn’t the way you approach other subjects as it is most irrational and lacking in common courtesy. At least you weren’t as rude or as filthy in your language as others (mind you, your last comment was pretty nasty – and you guys accuse me of hate!). It is hardly surprising to receive such a response though, after all, it is “out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks”. As for answering your inaccurate assertions I don’t think I’ll bother as it appears to me that you are determined to suppress the truth even though it cries out to you each and every day. So I’ll let the Scripture, which you wish to remove from the discourse, have the final word, “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes” (Isaiah 5:21).

  54. Oops! I mean Lot. I must have had Job on my mind because I was thinking that I should have his patience to deal with religious fundies.

  55. And I don’t think we need to be wishing anyone dead, Dr G. Pointing out the contradictions and sheer nastiness in the Bible is enough, eh? ;)

  56. Peter, it was you who came here with your dogmatic assertions and imposed it upon a gay place of refuge. You sought us out.

Nobody owes you a moment’s notice and we’ve seen a lot worse than you. Good day sir.

  57. “determined to suppress the truth”???

Hmmm… interesting statement from one person who wants to suppress scientific proven reality in lieu of a fable and discrimination. I’d suggest you look up the dictionary definition of truth…. and then compare it to the talking snake and 6,000 year old earth as a means of education the next generation with lies.

    What a buffoon.

  58. Thomas Aquinas 6 Jul 2010, 1:19am

Dear readers, the man pretending to be called Peter Cotton is resident in Bethlem, a mental hospital, I am one of his carers. He gets to the computer every now and again. I’m very sorry if he has offended any of you. He has very severe mental problems, please forgive him. I will try and stop him from using the computer for a few weeks.

  59. Um, so what if they are boycotting the Parade. Did you expect in a society were all are free to express themselves that Christians don’t have a right to say anything but gays can protest christians all day long? If anyone was a hypocrite in the whole thing I would say the gays. How can you MAKE someone accept you because of something you do in the bedroom? Appearance is one thing, sexual appetites is another!

  60. UnfetteredGaul 6 Jul 2010, 3:28am

I could never figure out why they seem to “care” soooo much about saving your soul, but wouldn’t lift a finger for you in daily life otherwise, straight or gay. Always with the two thousand year old rhetoric to make a point that they’re “concerned” about “saving” you? Complete morons. They should be castrated and prevented from breeding.

  61. Cant understand why the Pink news bovered to give these inadequates, Gods subordinates a space in the news–they were but of about 20 people, totoly ineffective and away from the Parade you could not even hear them, what a waste of newspaper space that could have been used with a paragraph or two on why a near 1 million people including cheering pedestrians from many countries celebrated this event
    (BAD NEWS REPORTING PINK NEWS)

  62. “How can you MAKE someone accept you because of something you do in the bedroom?”

Jevon, well probably the same way we made your mother accept you instead of the afterbirth.

  63. what did you expect – peter cotton = scientifically illiterate, evolution denying young earth creationist.

look at the ridiculous christian watch website, with its resoutrce page, including links to ‘answers in genesis’. Ask them how old the universe is…6000 years!!!! beyond stupid.

Simple illiterate palestinian peasants who wrote the bible had an excuse: they knew nothing about science, medicine, microbes, meteorology, astronomy. Peter Cotton, in the 21st century, 200 years after darwin, does not.

In Matthew 10:22, the supposed jesus of nazareth reportedly warns his followers to expect mockery, even hatred, because rational sensible people will think their beliefs to be ridiculous.
I agree with this, one of the few parts of the bible which is morally useful (that and the good samaritan, where someone with no knowledge of the jews or jesus is proved to be just as moral as anyone else, in fact more so).

It is always good fun to ridicule the self-pitying christian fanatics with their victim complex – they are like a circus act. It is important they are seen to be laughed at, as it encourages oterhs to do so :-)

The only reason they believe this nonsense is because they were brought up as children to do so, when they were too young to think for themselves. now, they are like slaves to a dictator.

Change is possible: you can walk away from superstitious nonsense now, and see reason! The Road To Damascus is a two way street.

  64. “Ask them how old the universe is…6000 years!!!! beyond stupid.”

You said it Adrian… I can only assume that fossils must upset them enormously. Imagine being handed a lump of rock that taunts and disproves everything they believe in? Proverbial garlic to the proverbial vampire, so to speak… And I can only assume they have blocked access to the Discovery Channel, who’s very presence must drive them (more) insane.

Can you imagine spending your life thinking every news paper, every TV channel, every 4th grade science book, is telling you that your ‘theories’ on creation are proven to be utter nonsense? No wonder they’re all nuts.

  65. I take it this group of ignorant Christians were just ignored and left to there own devices?! I guess it is there right protest….

However… What will be interesting is when LGBT community come out to protest against the Pope and his visit if the religious nuts present to see him, will treat us the same way… Or will they feel the need to create a scene?

It is Our right too after all to protest against something we don’t believe in… Though probably not to them it isn’t!

  66. “The only reason they believe this nonsense is because they were brought up as children to do so, when they were too young to think for themselves”

Yes, for many people, and the sense of worry and guilt that engenders is disturbing. But I’d also add that many of the most fundamentalist ‘christians’ are ‘born again’ and came/returned to religion as adults (and not always young adults either). That’s why I sometimes feel sorry for them. They’re miserable, feel hard done by in life and resentful so they embrace a fundie church to big themselves up.

I reckon many of them know deep down that what they’re saying is untrue and often plain nasty, but if they acknowledged that their whole sense of worth would be greatly damaged. Hence the anger that we often see here. It’s nothing about us, it’s all about their own issues, and we’re just a convenient target for the re-direction of their self-hate and insecurity.

And Jevon – what’s the obsession with sex? It’s about whom we LOVE. It takes a sick mind to look at a happy, loving couple and think only of what they may or may not do in bed.

  67. Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) 6 Jul 2010, 11:17am

We write in support of Peter Cotton. The Bible states that sinners (all sinners, including adulterers, liars etc.)do not like to hear the truth about their sin i.e., that it is offensive to a holy God.Yet it is the truth that sets us free. The Lord Jesus, He is the way,the truth and the life.He is merciful and compassionate but He will not wink at sin.He told the woman caught in adultery to “go,and sin no more”,John ch.8v11.We note the hostility towards Christians in many of the above comments, including an incitement to murder Christians “shoot them in the head”.If ever there was a “hate crime”,then the person who wrote those words is guilty of it.There can be no peaceful co-existence between peaceful Christians and those who want to silence them and even kill them.It is possible that the 22 Christians who opposed Saturday’s “gay pride” parade prevented God’s judgement from being poured out on London. In the Old Testament book of Genesis,ch.18vs23-33,we read that God would have spared Sodom if 10 righteous people were found in it,verse 32,but there weren’t even 10.Christians have a purifying effect on society.

  68. “We write in support of Peter Cotton.”

Stupidity loves company, doesn’t it? No, wait, that’s mystery…. well, stupid people must be miserable about heir stupidity, I guess.

“It is possible that the 22 Christians who opposed Saturday’s “gay pride” parade prevented God’s judgement from being poured out on London”

Occam’s razor dictates that its MORE possible that they self serving morons with nothing worthwhile to do but spread hate in the name of a god of love.

And by the way, you’re not Christian…. the fact you demonstrate such bigotry and intolerance for your fellow man on a gay site dictates, by definition, you are not Christian, no matter how many time you think calling yourself one will make a difference.

  69. “Christians have a purifying effect on society”

Tell that to the kiddies your priests fiddled with.

Tell that to the millions who have died over the centuries as a direct result of your sick cult.

    Just go away.

As much as religious people personally disgust me, I do not feel the need to go onto religious sites and insult them as you and Cotton are doing here.

  70. “Christians have a purifying effect on society.”

    If only that were true…

Loving someone of the same gender is not a sin and nowhere in the Bible are consensual, loving relationships between people of the same sex condemned.

The Christians at Pride didn’t prevent God’s judgement on London because, if there is a god, he/she doesn’t condemn us. Your use of Sodom is laughable. The sin of Sodom was inhospitality, as Jeses later makes clear. And while god considered that to be bad, he obviously didn’t mind rape (Lot offered up his daughters) or incest (Lot later slept with his daughters).

The twisting of the Bible to victimise others is why I stopped calling myself a Christian many years ago. If there was any grain of truth in the Bible, then it got lost centuries ago, as human beings twisted it and used it for the most pathetic and inhuman oppression of others. I don’t care to be associated with a tool of hate.

  71. Dr Robin Guthrie 6 Jul 2010, 11:49am

“Christians have a purifying effect on society.”

    Purifying?

All I seem to hear from the mouths of the more vocal Christians is condemnation, denigration, hate and intolerance.

In what way is that “purifying”, or perhaps you use the word in the context of eradicating all who do not share your belief.

Adolf Hitler attempted to ‘purify’ Germany.

    Is that what you mean…..?

  72. Peter Cotton . . . when are you going to repent of you homophobia

Peter Cotton . . . when are you going to seek help for your homophobia

Peter Cotton . . . when are you going to cleanse yourself of your sin of homophobia

  73. Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) 6 Jul 2010, 1:05pm

We note that those who responded to our comments conveniently ignored one of the matters we raised i.e.the incitement to kill Christians which is a “hate crime” and which law the “gay” lobby fought to have enacted and which is a crime which cannot be committed against Christians, or so it seems. We want to know if those who responded to our comment agree or disagree with killing Christians.”Yes” or “No” ? The comment about sinning priests should be addressed to the Roman Catholic Church. We are born again Christians not RC’s and we are opposed to the Pope’s visit, on Biblical grounds.By the way, many of the crimes of those priests involved homosexuals, preying on young teenagers.Stop trying to hide the truth.YOU ARE ONLY A MINORITY,not 10% or anything like it,yet you can spew out lies because, and only because you have powerful allies, but you haven’t fooled the majority and, more importantly, you haven’t and cannot fool God!

  74. I don’t want to kill you (or anyone) Sola Scripture, nor do I wish you harm, OK?

“yet you can spew out lies because, and only because you have powerful allies, but you haven’t fooled the majority and, more importantly, you haven’t and cannot fool God!”

What lies? It’s You who selectively quote the Bible and presume to state that being gay is a sin even when there’s no such statement condemning consensual, loving, adult same sex relationships in the Bible. What ‘powerful allies’?? Who are we trying to fool and why? And…do you believe in the NWO because that sounds an awful lot like it to me – ie a major persecution complex.

I suggest you spend less time gloating over how we ‘can’t fool god’ and how we’re ‘bad’, and more time enjoying the life you’ve been given. Hate will consume you, Sola Scripture, and if only you stood back and realised that you’d be a lot happier. Your posts – for all your ‘see the light of Jesus’ attitude – show that you’re not happy. I pity you and hope you can move on from your hate and bitterness.

  75. “the incitement to kill Christians”

Are you insane? We’re laughing at you, not trying to kill you… why would we, you’re a dying breed already.

“By the way, many of the crimes of those priests involved homosexuals, preying on young teenagers”

You have got to be joking. This is just lies, plane and simple. Shows how much you know about paedophilia, I’m not even going to being to point out how stupid and wrong that statement is. But then again, lies are all you need to make you feel that little bit more superior than the pathetic bigots you are, isn’t that so?

And how “Christian” you are to propagate lies in lieu of truth.

Now quit your whiney bitching and run along…. you’re insults are tiresome.

  76. “YOU ARE ONLY A MINORITY”

Sorry but that statement disturbs me. What? So it’s OK to persecute us? So we’ll be easier to get rid of??

Fortunately, you are a minority too. Not your ‘christian-ness’ your UNchristian-ness. And it makes sense that you’re born again. Every person I’ve met who is born again has had a number of issues (and I’m being polite there). Some of them open their minds and realise that there’s another way rather than hate, but some don’t. I sincerely hope you’re in the former group.

  77. “Sorry but that statement disturbs me. What? So it’s OK to persecute us? So we’ll be easier to get rid of??”

Iris, its like those holocaust denialist…. if they can believe that less then 6m people were exterminated then its somehow (and ridiculously) allowable to justify what happened. Its as if a smaller number validates persecution. The logic escapes me, and most people who believe in true democracy, but as you have pointed out, there seem to be something quite irrational and less than happy about our little pal here…. what’s new, eh?

And poor Sola-whats-his-face here obviously never saw a pride march…. its not as if we’re just a few people or anything! Silly Sola.

Still, his anger, and the same form similar shows their frustration, and that frustration is borne out of his powerlessness to our successes…. I see the two inversely proportional. So in that way, the more he rants like a lunatic, the more I know we’re getting the civil liberties we deserve.

  78. @Sola Scriptura

Please show us one example of a Christian being killed by a LGBT person in the UK, Europe or north America!

1 in 10 people are gay so get over it Sola Scriptura, we are even in your church maybe even your bible study group.

  79. Perhpas Pinknews should balance this out with the following from this article

    http://www.religiondispatches.org/dispatches/candacechellew-hodge/2890/religious_opposition_to_lgbt_equality_softening/?comments=view&cID=11187&pID=11121

” ……The UK-based religious think-tank Ekklesia is claiming that a growing number of Christian groups are now identifying as supporting gays and lesbians than in previous years. In a press release, Symon Hill, associate director of Ekklesia, noted that a welcoming religious presence has grown in gay pride parades around the world:

The increasing Christian acceptance of same-sex relationships is highlighted by the image of liberal, evangelical, Catholic and other Christians marching together at Pride. In recent years, the small number of Christians who turn up to protest against Pride have been vastly outnumbered by the Christians participating in it.
Hill also noted religious support in the UK last April for a new law “to allow religious elements in civil partnerships, while last year the Quakers became the first major Christian denomination to resolve to carry out same-sex marriages.”

Perhpas we should be encouraging these people more and perhaps focusing less on these nutters in this artilce!

    JohnK’s response
Sola Scriptura “Born Again” Christians are also in a minority but a much smaller one . . . one estimate is that about 1% of people in the UK are Fundamentalist Christians.

Sola Scriptura as a “Born Again” Christian in a tiny 1% minority, I think you will have great difficulty fooling the majority that you have anything worthwhile to offer “Civil Society

“It is possible that the 22 Christians who opposed Saturday’s “gay pride” parade prevented God’s judgement from being poured out on London.” – Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone)

Would this perhaps be hurricane Agnes swooping down laying clean the city , or perchance a plague of locusts being visited upon the city that these wholesome judgmental christians prevented by there very presence.

Note the absence of the capital “C” in christians.

With statements like that it is clear that it is no longer deserved.

And in retort to Mr. Cotton.

You have won the grand prize.

I asked you not to quote scripture but you did so without thinking.

And the very scripture you state demolishes your very own argument.

“Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes” (Isaiah 5:21).”

    Touche……

And PS. I’m a doctor of physics. Reason being I hate stupid people. You and people like you constantly remind me why.

Try thought once in a while. It’s not painful…..

  82. Really Sola Scriptura – what self pitying rubbish. Who is the Christian equivalent of Michael Causer? You pompous little nitwit. Being beaten up or worse because you are gay is almost a daily occurrence in the UK.

It goes without saying any normal human being would abhor violence against anyone on account of their personal religious beliefs alone. But almost always, religious persecution is perpetrated by the parties of God. Says so mucvh for faith doesn’t it?

Evoluiton happened, get used to it.

  83. Those religious nuts who feel the need to constantly quote from the bible do so because they actually fear thinking for themselves. Sadly that speaks for itself.

As for ‘killing Christians’… how pathetic. How many LGBT people have been murdered just because of who they are by Christians and other religions, who always convienently use their religious scripts to kid themselves their right in doing so.

Christian’s and the like are the only ones who feel they have justification in, not only discriminating against people but killing them as well. How is this right? How is this a loving peaceful religion? Their all hypocrites. They stop humanity progressing in any way so the very people like the LGBT community and it’s supports have to battle to try and get the best humanity can offer.

People like Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) need to take a deep look at themselves, see the damage they do, the hatred they spread. The difference between your like and the LGBT community?

The difference is You Choose to belong to religion, you are not born into it. You are taught to hate, to discriminate, to accept your scripts from over ego’d men as facts.

The Day religious nuts finally agree that religion should be a thing of the past and left to read in the history books as evidence of the nastiness they’ve caused, the better the world and humanity will become and finally will start to grow.

  84. There was a group of biggots this year (absent previous two years) at the Blackpool Pride. Nicely cordonned safely by the Police guard they were given. One of them was barracking out of a loudspeaker and microphone, yet anyone else with a megaphone on the street is subject to stop and question by the police. Some of the police there were pointing at the Pride parade and sniggering with each other. This group did not even have the decency or courage to state who they were, or where they were from, reigning insult and homophobic abuse. When I challenged them, I was swiftly told by their police guard, to ‘move on now’. Further evidence to me, that despite their poster campaigns and occassional fat old queen in uniform marching in London Pride, the police are in fact, the same homophobic biggots they have always been, and are the enemy of gay and lesbiamn people.

Regarding the homophobic christians, I can assure readers, that as a devout, practicing PROTESTANT Christian, I find no problem with my faith and my orientation. The vast, vast majority of Christian folk are loving, supportive and welcoming of gay and lesbian people. Those that aren’t, shall also perish in eternal damnation for breaking the key commandment of Jesus “You shall love one another”. It is the media who stoke up these stories and make ordinary people think these Christofascists are the majority voice – they aren’t. Most of them are backed by the racist, homophobic BNP and other warped nutters, who after thousands of years oppressing blacks and women, only have the Fabulous Federation to shout at and bemoan.

Antony’s remark about BNP backing of most anti-gay Christian groups is utter nonsense.I am opposed to the BNP and I have no dealings with, nor support from them, nor would I want any support from them.Again I note the viciousness and hostility of the “gay” lobby towards anyone who opposes them, particularly Christians. This is a deliberate strategy on the part of “gay” activists i.e. to attack and slander all opposition with a view to silencing it, and “hate crime” laws are one of the weapons used in the “gay” war against the Bible-believing Christian. Some years ago, two homosexual activists, Kirk and Madsen, wrote a book entitled, “After the Ball” and they outlined their strategy to persuade and later force America to overcome its fear of “gays”.They suggested distracting attention away from their sexual conduct and linking their agenda to the civil rights movement. They proposed three sophisticated propoganda techniques, 1.Desensitising, 2.Jamming, 3.Conversion.They have been remarkably successful in their achievements. The homosexual agenda is a sinister and deadly attempt to overthrow Biblical morality and it has a totalitarian impulse. I will let the Bible have the last word, “for the wages of sin is death;but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans ch.6 v23 and ” And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement” Hebrews ch. 9 v.27.This verse speaks of natural death, which is followed by judgement. However, there is a second death for unrepentant sinners (all types of sinners), see Revelation ch. 20 vs. 14 and 15.

  88. Dr Robin Guthrie 8 Jul 2010, 5:14pm

    Look Sola Scrtura.

    Don’t you get it.

This is a gay magazine’s online web presence discussion board.

It mainly consists of gay people discussing topical subjects
    on gay issues.

The problem with your posts is that you come into these discussions attacking us, or informing us how ungodly we are, invoking various rent-a-scripture quoted in the process.

You now have the temerity to question why people go on the offensive and return the attack.

Please go off to the http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/ and spout your bile there.

I’m sure you will find plenty of like minded people to discuss how revolting we nasty gays are.

Run along now. Theres a good boy……

  89. Dr Boycock 8 Jul 2010, 6:04pm

@87 “They suggested distracting attention away from their sexual conduct and linking their agenda to the civil rights movement.”

Sounds like a good policy to me…. What we do in our bedrooms is NOBODIES business but our own… and YES, it IS a civil rights issue!

“The homosexual agenda is a sinister and deadly attempt to overthrow Biblical morality and it has a totalitarian impulse.”

Again, what total rubbish. It´s none of your business and totalitarian? Not at all. You live your life and I´ll live mine thanks.

“However, there is a second death for unrepentant sinners (all types of sinners), see Revelation ch. 20 vs. 14 and 15. “

Yeah… there you go again with the ´threats´ metered out by the churches for centuries to control the masses… . ´Repent or you will burn in the fires of hell´ bullsh-t!

Well, I´m not planning on being burnt in any fires any time soon.. I could´nt afford the gas bill… Have you SEEN the price of gas these days? :-)

It´s a shame that if what I believe is true, when YOU die, that will be it. Nothing, Nada. You won´t even get to reflect on a whole life wasted worshiping some all-seeing sky-pilot. A ´god´ who lets people starve and suffer from ´natural disasters´ and other ´acts-of-god´.

You have spend a life filled with hate and ignorance. You certainly won´t be seated at gods ´top-table´ as you obviously hope.

I do seriously worry about your state of mind though… Let´s take a look at the clues shall we?

    1) Worships mythical beings
    2) Loves to sing (but only on Sundays)
    3) Worships and promised undying allegiance to superior MALE
    4) Loves men in frocks who are in close proximity to huge candles.
    5) Spends a good portion of each day hanging out on gay websites…

Okay, let´s punch the above 5 points into our little computer shall we?

    ………COMPUTER SAYS….

    CLOSET CASE!!!!!

Fact 2: LGBT people Don’t! We are Born the way we are.

We are opposed to homophobia, heterosexism, and other oppressive mindsets which some Christians think are comparable with Jesus teachings; which hare clearly not. Jesus preached “Love” not hatred. If we appear opposed to you “Sola” it is because we view you as preaching and inciting hatred, and we are wondering when you are going to repent of your homophobia; rather than constantly trying to legitimize your hatred through pick and mix scripture bashing.

  93. Dr Robin Guthrie 8 Jul 2010, 8:51pm

Sent off to Sunday School to learn the ways of
Protestantism as it was at the time.

Even at the age of 5 I saw through the lot of it.

However I knew something was different.

I did not know at the time, sex being an alien concept.

I spent the formative part of my teens assisting my parents with
my severely mentally handicapped sister as I still do now.

    She has Praeder Willi syndrome.

Look it up. ( it’s not nice )

I then spent years protecting her when she went to her
“special school” from , lets say at the moment people
who did not understand her condition and could only offer insults
    due to their ill informedness.

She was born missing a Chromosome. Namely recognized as Number 15.

Still, being a child of the 70’s I had nothing to compare my inherent feelings
with given the only media representations of how I felt at the time.

Presently, I support 18 various charities through either working directly
or offering money to the tune of £240,000 per year.

I have also been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and at the end of my life
all that will be in my head, is how hateful you alleged christians actually are.

Not one word of Jesus’s message has entered into your thick skulls.

Even as a dying aithiest I know the Jesus message better than you.

    How sad.

And when they are loaded, offer to have a little sex fun with them in a private place.

Youre bound to get some takers – the closeted gays who throw out their self hatred on others to try and hide who they are.

At least you’d be doing both an act of charity as they scream more more harder harder faster faster.

And have it videod to help them come out of the closet when their mind clears. Hallelujah

@ Peter Cotton…May I suggest you don’t try and hide behind the blanket of fundamentalism because it has holes all over it and the more we understand the bigger they get.

@ Peter Cotton & Sola Scripture…what is your understanding of the word ‘context’?

  99. 21stCenturySpirituality 10 Jul 2010, 4:49pm

@ Sola Scripture…’The homosexual agenda is a sinister and deadly attempt to overthrow Biblical morality and it has a totalitarian impulse.’

‘homosexual lifestyle’…’homosexual agenda’….What are these things? What exactly do you mean by those things? Because I’m gay and I haven’t got a clue what your talking about and neither have you by the sounds of it. My life is pretty much like everyone elses, give or take, so what exactly is this ‘homosexual lifestyle’ you mention? And what makes you think that you are qualified or entitled to dictate and decide how gay men and women live their lives and to define their ‘lifestyle’? Can you define my ‘lifestyle’ please? What does a typical day for me look like?

I see no suggestion in what gay men and women are asking for apart from a desire and wish to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect and to be recognised and included and acknowledged as human beings with as much right to justice and equality as all human beings. How exactly does the concept of justice and equality for everyone without discrimination fly in the face of Biblical morality?

And ‘totalitarian’. Thats rich coming from the likes of YOU!

@ Peter Cotton & Sola Scripture… and further to my request for you to explain your understanding of the word ‘context’, can you explain please what you think is implied when the word ‘historical’ appears next to the word ‘context’?

  101. I can’t stand those interfering people who bang on your door and tell you how you need to be ‘saved’ or you’ll ‘burn’?

    Fcuking firemen.

Where have Peter Cotton & Sola Scripture gone? Scuttled off back to the Christian Institute Facebook Page no doubt.

  103. Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) 7 Aug 2010, 8:57pm

Hello once again!Sola Scriptura here.May I direct my remarks to 21st Century Spirituality and Dr.Robin Guthrie.I was very sorry to read that you,Dr.Guthrie, are terminally ill.My husband and I have prayed for you. This fact may or may not please or help you but at least you know that complete strangers are genuinely concerned about your suffering. We did not answer 21st Century Spirituality’s questions as our laptop broke down and is only now operational again. With these comments, we’ll close our correspondence on this comment line unless someone wishes to learn more of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  104. I guess this thread is by now effectively long closed but I wanted to say I enjoyed reading through the comments (cure for insomnia – lol). While it is likely I would on balance side more with Peter Cotton and Sola Scriptura because of my Christian beliefs, I did value reading the other comments made (except for the ones aimed at goading and insulting, which I feel are unnecessary). I have to say I have never attended a Pride parade but I appreciate the opportunity of being better informed should I ever do so and be respectful and understanding. Best wishes to all!
