The Scissor Sisters’ front man, Jake Shears has engaged in some canny viral marketing for the band’s new album with a spoof advertisement on a leading gay male escort website.

The profile on RentBoy (this website is not safe for work) contains erotic photographs made on band mate Baby Daddy on his iPhone. It lists Jake’s as being based in London and his talents as “go-go dancing and stripping” and claims his “out rate” is just $11.99, or in other words, the price of the band’s new album on the US version of iTunes.

According to his profile, Jake says he is “down to earth, have TONS of energy and will make you sweat all night long.”

The band, appeared on last night’s Jonathan Ross Show on BBC One to promote their new album Nightwork, out at the end of the month.

The Scissor Sisters will be distributing fake money during their 26-city world tour. The money which contains the slogan “Make Some Cash, **** the Rich” displays the www.scissorsisters.com/xxx website address when held up to the light. After verifying the visitor’s age it redirects them to the RentBoy listing for Jake Shears.

It’s thought to be the first time that a major band has used the escort listings website to promote an albumn.
