Lloyds TSB is including a gay couple in its latest advertising campaign.

The bank has produced an advert showing a cartoon gay couple standing next to a pile of paint tins and wallpaper rolls with the caption: “We can help you save to turn your house into your dream home”.

The ads will be published in national newspapers next week.

A spokeswoman for the bank said the ads were part of its new equality initiatives, which include a “rainbow network” for gay staff.

She said: “Our new ads are also a part of this. Lesbian and gay customers are an important part of the Lloyds TSB brand vision and these ads reflect that.”

The bank came top of Stonewall’s gay-friendly employer list in 2009. It did not enter last year’s index because of its merger with HBOS.

Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill said: “We’re delighted that a major retailer is recognising that gay people form part of their merchandising market in 2010.

“We do now have evidence that lesbian and gay couples expect to be reflected in commercial marketing and advertising.”
