Gay comedian Matt Lucas has reportedly won a role on American television series Glee.

He is to play a British teacher who harbours a secret love of musicals, the Sun reports.

Lucas may also get a solo performance in the hit show.

Last week, Glee writer Ryan Murphy revealed he was writing a Christian, anti-gay character into the show.

He told TV Guide magazine: “I’m adding a Christian character. We’ve taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year, so what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognise and say, ‘Oh, look – I’m represented there, too!’.

“If we’re trying to form a world of inclusiveness, we’ve got to include that point of view as well.”
He added that the unnamed character would disagree with gay character Kurt Hummel’s sexuality, as well as objecting to some of the more sexually-charged performances by the Glee Club.
