In reporting his appointment, the local paper, Retford Times, makes no mention of his sexuality. Could we finally have arrived at a point when being gay is no longer noteworthy? Now that would be news in itself! Congrats to Ian.

I would of loved to of seen his parents faces when they found out who was their next mayor was. I hope he builds a sewage farm in their back garden and passes a bye law requiring them to be pelted with rotten fruit.

Congratulations from New York City and this devoted, tax-paying gay American citizen. In many ways, your nation is many miles ahead of ours–and not just in great tea! Sure, the USA has its marches, sign wavings and letters to the editor with regard to equal gay rights, but are we really going all that forward? No, as a middle-age gay American, I’d say “No way.” I pray to God that our nation follows some of the wise steps yours is taking. Best of luck to you in office!
