it hardly surprises me given the way things are in Scotland just now. Homophobia is at what may be it’s highest point in over a decade.

    We’re suffocating up here.

  2. I am so sorry that you guys are having a rough time in Scotland it sound as if it is more homophobic than Poland. I think the murder of Jack Frew is appalling and against all Human Rights. I condemn it outright and my sympathies and love go to his family and friends.

I agree totally but I fear this won’t be the last murder.

  4. 40 decades pasted and only only 20 10 May 2010, 1:29pm

I blame facebook, kids don’t get out enuff they have poor socail skills!

  5. Its sad that a friend could do that to you, but it looks like to me two friends got into an argument, a bit of a strugle and then one whips out a knife. and the ONLY reason he has that knife is not becuase hes got poor education or uncaring perants, but the medias (NEWS channels) reporting on teen stabings and how dangeus it’s to go out side! what do they thinks going to happen they will defend them selfs with what ever they can find. All blame should be on the media for their careless regarde to peoples mentality reporting on how bad the world is.

May I ask what you feel has caused or is contributing to this level of homophobia, which appears by your suggestion to be higher than in England.

  7. Speechless…heartbreaking news…

  8. wow wow … what was on his mind ? he just took a life as easy as an antz. what is wrong for being gay anyway ? as long as he doesnt touch you

  9. @ Josh,”as long as he doesn’t touch you”! WTF?! What’s wrong with people who use such asinine comments as this?! So,it’s ok to be gay just don’t express it in any way! So,lets presume that Jack Frew in some way ‘approached’ his mate and that mate took exception to it.Would that give the mate ‘carte blanche’ to whip out a knife and stab Jack?!What the hell is wrong in simply saying,’Yeah, mate,I’m not gay”?!Even if this ‘mate’ is charged with Jack’s murder and it transpires Jack had in some way ‘come on to him’,is THAT gonna be this lad’s defence?!If a hetty bloke ‘came on to’ a lass and she didn’t like it would she be in any better a position to stab him? Right now we should be focusing on why it somehow seems more acceptable to use the homophobia defence!Condolences to Jack’s family and friends.

  10. Poor kid no one cares gay men put more energy into getting married than saving lives of theose gay men less fortunate who dont live in London and have to struggle to survive every day

  11. Very sadly Paul, the so-called gay panic defence seems to be used a lot, at the time of writing this post, the top story on Pink News is of someone doing exactly that for the murder of a gay man last summer. Sickening really, given how many lawyers are using it (presumably they wouldn’t if they didn’t think it improved their client’s chances of a reduced sentence due to leniency by the courts), maybe it should be legislated against.

  12. dean – people care plus gay marriage is one of many things that is fought for

  13. RIP Jack

how could someone who’s supposedly a ‘friend’ commit murder?

  14. The mainstream media in Scotland haven’t even yet reported that this poor lad was gay and it could have been why he was killed. Reporting Scotland described him as “flamboyant” today, so I think that gives you an indication of what it’s like in Scotland.

  15. Why do you vultures contaminate stories like this? Theotherone, life’s no’ ah film aw aboot you, yi know.

  16. Heartfelt sympathy to Jack’s family, loved ones and friends.

    Such a young, vibrant life.

  17. @ Anthony: It turns out (as reported here now too) that the young lad’s best friend who he was with and who was injured, has been arrested in regard to the murder.

Even so, even though it now appears to have not been anything due to a homophobic murder as it now transpires, the points about Scotland being generally very homophobic, I think, are still very true & relevant. Whenever I travel south from Scotland, I find that, overall, there is a less homophobic attitude from people. Of course I generalise, homophobes are everywhere, just that up here in Scotland there seems to be an awful lot of them.

  18. @17:

Thank you for confirming that. I’m inclined to agree just by what I’ve read over the last year or so. And let’s not mention the influence of the SNP.

But this is not the place nor the time, as I’m sure Anthony will agree.

    Such a horrendous crime.

  19. What parasites you British Nats are – Pope Jean-Paul writes “and let’s not mention the influence of the SNP. But this is not the place nor (sic) the time …”.

  20. you shouldn’t generalise Simon!

  21. Oh fuddle duddle, I’ve been outed: it’s true…I am a British Nationlaist (hic).

  22. A young man is murdered and all the low-life scum like Jean-Paul can do is make snide remarks against a political party and make stupid “jokes”. You sub-human trash.

  23. My only hope is that the murderer is subjected to a life that would equal what he did, the young lad jack had not begun his full life yet . Each to their own imo. this is a disgrace ( Rest in peace and sympathy to your family )
