  1. Labour councillors described as “venomous, vicious and vindictive” and responsible for widespread “bullying and harassment”.

That sounds like Labour to me. Nothing New in that. This could also be said about a few of their supporters too! Esp on here!

  2. Having seen this guy on TV, I can understand why he has got the councillors backs up. As Mayor he should be building consensus not division in the council.

  3. As a gay man having seen a number of Prides around the country, I too would have some of them banned.

  4. Hmm, had this been a Tory councillor, the baying wolves on here would have been screaming for his blood, and Harriet Harman demanding his resignation. However, as it’s not, they will do what Labour always do and let it slide without so much as a comment. I know churches that do that too.
The stench of hypocrisy around here is overpowering.

I’m sorry, did you happen to miss the very first comment?

    The article is called:

“Doncaster mayor who tried to ban Pride ‘at war’ with Labour councillors”

So, how is that let it slide without so much as a comment?

PS where is Vulpus Rex these day?

  7. vulpus_rex 20 Apr 2010, 2:30pm

“PS where is Vulpus Rex these day?”

Still here Patrick, just swamped at work.

I suppose that does represent an opportunity to stock up on venomous, anti-Liebour sound bites, speaking of which……

Only 16 days left now until Liebour self destruct and are smashed into third place by the lib-dems – hoorah!

Anyone else hear the great dithering bully get an absolute pasting on Radio 1 today – it was a real treat!

  8. rob n- “Hmm, had this been a Tory councillor etc”

Funny how you seem it plausible that a Tory MP would be capable of being such an ideological fool as Peter Davis… I wonder why.

back to topic, this guy is a homophobic right wing nutter who has done nothing more to prove himself as such over the last few days. I sincerely hope that no out and proud gays would be willing to vote for a homophobic party such as the English democrats but then stranger things have happened I hear some people are considering voting Tory…is there a difference?

  9. Are you absolutely sure e tried to ban the Pride March (Doncaster Pride, Jesus) or just said he dodn’t want to spend public taxpayer funds on giving it a grant?

Saying “give us cash or we will accuse you of discrimination” sounds a bit like demanding money with menaces. If you don’t give money to gays you are homophobic now?

  10. Julian: “Saying “give us cash or we will accuse you of discrimination” sounds a bit like demanding money with menaces. If you don’t give money to gays you are homophobic now?”

Nothing new there. The ethnic minorities have been doing that for years. Beating us over the head with our own human rights legislation has been going on for years.

“Izzit it coz I is black?”

  11. I am in love with you Rob, you had better be cute because you think just like me!

It’s truly wonderful to see the Labour party attempts to jerrymander the political landscape crumbling around their ears. Let’s give all Labour areas two votes, with Scottish and Welsh Parliaments, a London Mayor, mayors in the north (but never in the south) etc, and one by one they have all turned and Labour has lost power in all these areas.

To think Doncaster, one of the most Labour of decrepid, corrupt councils in UK falling to an Independent who wants value for money, delicious!

  12. On a different note, I thinks it funny that the Icelandic Volano has done more for the UK immigration in 5 days than Labour has ever done in 13 years.

  13. A. McCurtin 20 Apr 2010, 5:17pm

It seems a bit far stretched to blame the failure of Doncaster Council on the fact that the Labour councillors hate a homophobic, racist, right wing hater who is the mayor.

The man has actually claimed that he thinks there is no such thing as child poverty! He shouldn’t be in charge of anything, let alone a council – he doesn’t have a clue! He’s unfit for the job, that isn’t going to change, no matter how many people on the council loathe him.

As for Julian’s comment about giving ‘labour supporters two votes’ -it’s just nonsense, get over the fact that Scotland and Wales are different countries, and accept the fact that the Scottish and Welsh wanted devolved powers – that’s why they were backed in a referendum. The English however chose not to support devolved powers to their regional areas.

The paranoid rubbish spouted on this site overwhelms me sometimes.

    A. McCurtin, I think the point here may be that their hatred of him has been extremely detrimental to the workings of the council and the people that it serves.

Perhaps that would have done better to have been a bit more sophisticated in their revenge on the mayor rather than their apparent attempts to do him over at every turn without thought for the consequences to others.

Let’s take a bit of a closer look at that shall we Rob:

Let’s for example take a look at a couple of the areas with the highest numbers of people jobless and claiming benefits shall we …

Top of the table we have Rochdale, population 86.5% white, then lets maybe take a look at the second highest ….. Ryhl (well known as the first port of call for the immigrant population – not!), here we have 98.8% white, with the largest ethnic group outside that being Chinese, 147 of them.

Hardly the blacks filling their boots in either of them.

Looking at it with a black face, its actually all the white British that seem to be scamming the benefits. Complaining about the blacks coming over and taking all the jobs first, now the Eastern Europeans. You didn’t want the jobs, so you GAVE them away and now the recession has kicked in people are regretting being so dumb. Someone had to do the cr@p jobs and there were an awful lot of white British people who didn’t want to do them when the good times were here. Instead they were happy screwing the benefits system for everything Labour would throw at them. Another reason the economy has gone down the toilet.

Worse still you’ve now got a generation of kids who have grown up in households where they have never seen a parent go out to work, so there is sod all chance of them having developed any sort of work ethic either

It Doesnt matter what gay pride you go to or in which town, they are all the same, pure diabolical and the acts are not even worth a mention.
Glasgow Pride for this year has just been given a £9,000 grant from the big lottery to put a “shambles” and yes it will be a shambles on in Glasgow on the 17th July 2010. If anything like pride 08 is repeated, it will be a shambles.
To me and many others, Pride is played out now, they only want your money for that day and dont give a dogs toss about you afterwards. They line their own pockets and then get into all sorts of debts after and expect us gaybies to bail them out….
Pride No More is what i say

  17. Waring factions on councils are everywhere! Hope that is a comfort to the people of Doncaster. Just visit Burnside Council in South Australia. Notorious!

  18. SMC: Oh yeah, blame us as usual. Crap jobs that Eastern Europeans will do for less than the minimum wage? I never mentioned blacks, I mean any immigrants, be they EU authorised or not. Do you think a teacher can do their job when they could have up to 30 different languages in a school? When Safeways’ chief meat supplier turned British people away because they couldn’t speak Polish? When every council has to produce at least twenty versions of every piece of literature they hand out? When companies are going bust in all directions because they are being undercut by Poles and Romanians? A crime wave of stunning proportions being created by West Africans? I could go on. (and I usually do) ;) – There is a bloody enormous pachyderm sitting on your sofa. It’s not going to go away.

  19. “The town where Pride was nearly banned ”

No it was not. Peter Davies just said that tax payers money should not be used to promote any single group. It is his and the English Democrats view that public money should not be spent on what they consider PC activities. The only reason that the march gets the funds this year is that the council had already approved the budget. Next year the Mayor gets his way and the funds will stop.

So the answer is will the Gay pride event go ahead – well that depends how much it matters to the people. It would work out at around 60p a person to attend if the Council did not used tax payers money. Hardly seems a lot of money to fork out for something you wish to attend.

Comments that the Mayor is homophobic or racists seems to go against everything he has said. He believes everyone is equal and should be treated as such, seems some people (or groups) cannot stand being equal and what to be more ‘equal’ than others.

All that’s a slightly different point though from the point you appeared to originally be suggesting were you likened ‘ethnic minorities’ to gays saying given us money or you are homophobic.

I was purely making the point that its actually the locals that should be running classes in how to screw the state out of a small fortune.

There is obviously an issue with people from other countries coming here and making use of an unsustainable benefits system, but it pales against the numbers of those native to here that have made a career out of it.

The solution surely is to make the benefits system a short-term safety net for who need it, and provide long term benefits only for those with genuine long term disabilities that prevent them from supporting themselves – that way we wouldn’t need to take cheap pot shots at immigrants who have for the main been happily paying taxes to shore up the welfare state from cloud cuckoo land.

I appreciate you are for a much more Myanmar/Burma-esque British Isles, but I don’t know if you ever have the need to visit as doctor or a dentist, or spend some time in hospital, because if you did you might realise that an awful lot of them ain’t English. You might want to also take a look at the colleges and universities churning out the doctors, dentists and nurses of the future, because those little immigrant kids that are holding all the locals back, seem to come on leaps and bounds by the time they hit their late teens and got all the qualifications they need to secure the good jobs in the future.

Or perhaps you were thinking more along the lines of a Cambodia style of back to year zero approach, so we wouldn’t be needy any healthcare professionals at all.

Britain has used immigrants for centuries, and we have ALL benefited from the arrangement. How dare they speak a different language when they get here – Jesus, not like the Brits abroad eh? Dear God they can all manage to order two beers in Spanish.

I think Rob you may need to take a close look at your native Brit before blaming the woes of the world on foreigners. You seem to have a bit of a rose tinted view of things I think.

As for crime, I think you’ll find that foreigners here commit crime about as often as native British, and that is probably the same of native British overseas in relation to the nationals of other countries. So not sure any arguments you have there hold any water.

  21. “I agree with Nick” nothing wrong with immigrants who work, pay taxes and obey the law. Lets face it there are enough native Brit Trailer Trash who won’t work and sponge off the state. Everyone should play their part in society, take and give in equal measure and pay their dues; thats what being civilised is all about, caring for the weak and aged, protecting kids (from malevolent religious clery!) and fostering equalites for everyone who plays by the rules. Those who want to come into the UK and subvert our laws, plant bombs and commit crimes can keep out!

  22. SMC: Like I said. Elephant. Room.
Complete denial and avoidance of the problem in hand.
Apart from the crumbling economy this government has dropped us in, the key debate this coming election is immigration. Not that any of the parties really wanted to discuss it, but the people do, and it has now become a key deciding factor on who people will vote for. If that doesn’t say it, nothing will. People are sick and tired of being accused of racism, when all they want is their own country back. Is it no wonder that the likes of the BNP continue to grow in numbers simply because no major party will bite the bullet and say what everyone is thinking?

  23. I agree with zeph’s comments, and Mr Davies merely said he wouldn’t waste taxpayers’ money on people parading their sexuality through the town, when it’s something they should be funding themselves.

  24. A Martin, I would love to accept that Scotland and Wales are different countries if my taxes didn’t have to prop both “countries” up with the Barnett formula. Holding their hands out for public money so they can give free public services which are denied in England – who pays for it – while MPs representing those areas vote against it in Parliament.
And beofre you mention oil, remember that there are only 2 years where North Sea oild revenues have exceeded the amount of money Scotland holds its hand out for form Central Government, 1986 and 2007.

Couldn’t agree more though with Sister Mary, I find it deplorable that “native” british people decry immigrants “taking their jobs” wehn they feel they are above cleaning a hospital toilet but not too proud to sit on their backsides living on benefits. They complain there are no jobs but somehow immigrants find those jobs having arrived from the other side of the world, but the “natives” cannot be bothered to travel 5 miles to a low paid job. Shameful, fit, healthy people should not be paid any benefits if they will not look for work.

  25. Sister Mary clarence 22 Apr 2010, 9:27am

    Xenophobic Rob, not racist.

It isn’t a particularly workable strategy for this country to take in foreigners when it needs then but the minute there is a downturn, hoof them all out again.

Slightly ironic too that you should focus on integration issues when the Brits abroad belligerently do all they can to maintain that little piece of Britain wherever they go, disregarding local custom and law, then bemoaning the fact they’ve got locked up for a bit of drunken, naked slap and tickle in the middle of the town square. Sweet Jesus, the British are world renowned for their grip of foreign languages … well, their lack of grip. Probably the last people who should be complaining about the lack of integration of others.
