Gay Tory candidate Alan Duncan has been targeted by vandals who scrawled homophobic abuse across his election posters.

Mr Duncan, who is standing again for election in Rutland, said the abuse was “abysmal behaviour”.

He told the Melton Times: “It’s abysmal behaviour which is not acceptable in the promotion of democracy.

“The people of Rutland and Melton will not approve of these loutish vandals. We can’t have a positive election if people behave like this.”

His election team are attempting to clean the attacked posters.

Mr Duncan was the first MP to have a civil partnership.
