Chaz Bono applies to formally change name and gender

Cher’s son Chaz Bono has applied to a judge to formally change his name and gender.

Bono began his transition last March. He was born female and lived as a lesbian for 20 years.

Gossip website TMZ reported that court documents showed Bono’s doctor had completed his surgery, ending his transition period.

The documents also showed his new name as ‘Chaz Salvatore Bono’.

In November, Bono spoke candidly about making the decision to transition at the age of 40.

He said: “At this point, nothing scares me. I’m living the life I always wanted to live and it’s amazing.

“Life is short and life is precious. This is who I am. I need to finally be who I am.”
