Man could be free next year for manslaughter of gay partner
A London man found guilty of the manslaughter of his boyfriend may be free as soon as October next year.
Robin Clarke, 40, from Avenue Road, Tottenham, was found guilty earlier this month of the manslaughter of Daryl Phillips, 39.
Phillips died in May last year when Clarke stabbed him in the leg during an argument at their home.
Today, a judge at the Old Bailey sentenced Clarke to four years in jail, of which he will serve two years, with a further three on parole.
The Haringey Independent reports that due to the time he has served under house arrest, he may be freed in 2011.
Detectives said that the case is likely to go to the Court of Appeal.
Detective Sergeant Iain Morrison told the newspaper: “I think it is a very lenient sentence given all circumstances of the case.
“It is my understanding that this matter will go to the Court of Appeal.”
The court heard that Clarke had a history of violence and one former partner called police more than 20 times to report assaults.
He was cleared of murder because the jury believed he did not intend to kill Phillips.
Clarke told the court that a fight broke out between the couple when Phillips drunkenly accused him of being unfaithful.
