I still have my copy of People magazine from when Ryan died and it focused a lot of how Elton was there while the boy was dying and in his last days. I never forgot Ryan White and what he and his family went through. Elton is just stellar for never having forgotten him either. I can’t imagine how deeply this affected him but by his actions I am guessing rock-bottom. Nice Elton!
Thank You Elton John!!
I was hoping he’d come back here at some point. I clearly remember all of this. I was living up at Morse Lake (North Noblesville) at the time (Lion’s Creek Apartments), and Ryan’s house was only about 2 miles away from me – in Cicero. My lover managed the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Noblesville and Ryan ordered at the drive through there several times a week and he knew Ryan fairly well. I never had the opportunity to meet him though.
Anyway, the treatment Ryan and his family received was appalling. And it made me feel very ashamed to call the state of Indiana my home. Elton John and Michael Jackson offered Ryan (and many others) a ray of hope through their kindness and compassion, and set an example for others to follow in the future. Things are still tricky here, but much better than they used to be. And that is largely due to the efforts of Elton John and others like him. I’m glad he is coming back to Indianapolis next month.
