Glee’s sports coach Sue Sylvester has a new bugbear – “sneaky gays”.

A viral video clip from the new season of the Fox series shows the villain, played by lesbian Jane Lynch, venting about how gays are now blending in everywhere.

In the clip, posted on PerezHilton.com, Sue says that in the days of Oscar Wilde and Liberace, gays were “so flaming they could be seen them from space”.

But, in a reference to a guest star, she says: “Neil Patrick Harris, you confuse me. I hear you’re gay, but there you are on my TV playing a normal, womanising, cardigan-wearing straight.

“And then I heard a rumour you’re not actually a doctor. So much sneaky gay deception!”

Sue denies she is a homophobe though, saying: “I got nothing against gays. Just ask my sassy intern Tyler.

“He has to live in my tool shed because I deny him health care, as I consider gayness a preexisting condition.”

Lynch said recently that she was sometimes horrified by some of Sue’s remarks.

She said: “The funny thing about it, at the first draft of the script there’s always something in there I have to go ‘I can’t say this’ – there was something about skinning a cat once – I can’t talk about skinning a cat!”

She added: “Every week I’m shocked and delighted and very, very happy that Ian Brennan, who created my character and basically writes all my lines, came up with this idea.”
