Politicians from the three main parties will attend a gay hustings event in London tonight.

Gay networking group Village Drinks is hosting the event with Europe minister Chris Bryant, shadow environment secretary Nick Herbert and Lib Dem equality spokeswoman Lynne Featherstone.

My Bryant and Mr Herbert are both gay and the event is being held in support of Stonewall. Green Party candidate Chris Smith will also be joining the event.

Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill will chair the hustings and members of the audience will be invited to put their questions to the panel.

Mr Summerskill said: “Whichever party wins the next election they’ll have influence over the everyday lives of nearly four million lesbian, gay and bisexual people in Britain.

“We know that gay people base their vote on many different factors but we hope that this event will give voters an important opportunity to hear directly from candidates what each of the main parties proposes to make equality for gay people a reality – at home, at school, at work.

“Stonewall will be encouraging all gay people to use their vote in 2010.”

The event will begin tonight at 6.30pm at The King’s Fund, 11-13 Cavendish Square and will be followed by a drinks reception.
