A lesbian couple have become the first to have a civil partnership in prison.

Murderer Sara Crane and drug dealer Joanne Davies, both 31, had their ceremony at Send Prison in Sussex, the Sun reports.

The pair wore their own clothes for the nuptials and were permitted a party afterwards with their fellow inmates.

They paid £250 for the service, which was officiated by a registrar inside the prison.

Crane was jailed for life in 2003 for killing a neighbour, while Davies is serving two and a half years for intent to supply drugs.

They are reportedly allowed two hours together each day.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Offenders are entitled to apply to register a civil partnership in prison.”
