This is a refreshing development, and shows clearly that the younger generation is, in general, much more liberal, tolerant and understanding than their parents. I am guessing that Amal Fashanu is the daughter of John Fashanu, whose bigotry led him to disown his brother after he came out, and in all likelihood contributed significantly to Justin’s suicidal thoughts. It is encouraging to see that, in this case, the apple has indeed fallen far from the tree.

  2. There’s a report on the launch of Football v Homophobia on yesterday’s Late Kick Off East programme available online for a few more days:-

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qcpzh

Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), the FA and the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) have endorsed the Justin Campaign. For the first time there will be an international day against homophobia in football to raise awareness on the problem of homophobia in amateur and professional football. Obviously this will need media support to catch on.

  3. what a brave young lady – shame the footballers remain spineless and hide. Why would none of the hetro footballers come forward and support this cause any hate crime is not acceptable.

  6. If it takes non-footballers to “force” the professional footballers & their management to pull their finger out, then good. Its just sad it takes others to put pressure on them to take homophobia in the sport seriously enough to actually do something about it.

  7. Vincent – I don’t think this is John Fashanu’s daughter, as far as I’m aware he doesn’t have any children.

It is good to see that the horrible attitude of Justin’s brother is obviously not shared by all of the family.
