  1. I’ve “considered” suicide. Haven’t we all? Doesn’t any human being with a brain at some point in his or life just feel like checking out? Of course we all do.

    I’m sceptical about Winterson. I’ve always thought she’s all a bit too wrapped up in herself. Enjoyed reading her Oranges though.

Her relationship with her adoptive parents was difficult, they were strict Evangelicals and wouldn’t accept her sexuality; she once told of finally not being able to take it any more and leaving home and as she walked away from the house her mother shouting after her, “Why do you want to be happy when you can be normal”. No wonder she felt suicidal. I was in a similar situation and fully understand.
